In the story Cinderella , she is given the nice things she wanted until 12 midnight . Imagine if a fairy came along and said to us diabetics " i will give you a whole day without diabeties and no symtoms all i ask is you do one good thing " . My question is this what would be the good thing you do to obtain this one off gift? oh and another question what would you eat and drink to make up for not having this condition ?

My thoughts on this would be to make 20 people laugh as laughter is infectious in a good way or donate my day to good causes such as donating blood or helping a kids charity. As for food and drink i would donate what i would partake to homeless as my health would be greatest blessing of all.

If I did one good thing it be to sit for one day with someone who is deeply lonely and give them the gift of time and tenderness. So many times, I've felt that it was so little and what could one day do . . . having experienced "the pit" I know just how powerful a little kindness can be . . . even if it is only for a day. Each person's kindness adds up to a whole lot. I look for it in a stranger's smile, in the face of the person who offers me their seat on the train, in little favors. And it only takes a moment. Now, for my reward: I would eat a whole lemon icebox pie by myself . . . yum!

your reply to my question did make feel quite emotional, in
life i have had moments like you talk about i.e being in a room full of people and feeling the most lonely one in there. but age and my inner ability to adapt to situations helps me with this . Plus i remember what an ex family friend once said to me : Andy always remember you are always on show regardless of life's situation and shine as brightly as possible! mind you think with extra emotions of this condition i occasionally want to be invisible for day.

Great advice from your friend! I find that when I walk out the front door with a smile I am greeted with many, many smiles from others. Before I know it I'm feeling the smile "inside"!

I have done a few good deeds in my day. I used to volunteer at the Veteran's administration (helping old sick veterans), Chinese Historical Society of Southern California (giving children tours of LA Chinatown), did anti-gang workshops with the Temple City Sheriff's and the Temple City School District. However one of the best deeds I have ever done occurred after a personal crisis.

I was in the middle of the 2008 financial crisis and just ended my relationship with my fiance. I had just gotten home after sending my ex-fiance to jail for exposing her daughter to meth and stealing the rent so many times. I let her steal from me for two years, gamble, forge my signature on stolen checks, but the straw that broke the camel's back was when she called me a racial slur. I blew my top and had the deputies arrest her. I came home severely depressed.

Then I heard these three very young boys crying and screaming outside of my window. I went out and there these three kids, younger than 12 were drinking and whaling away. Apparently one of the boy's father just left his family. He was miserable and suicidal. His friends were getting drunk with him and trying to keep him from getting further depressed.

I asked them if they were OK. My father had left me as well. So this kid's sorrow really hit me hard. I told him to hell with his Dad. He was the man of the house now. He had to take care of his mother and little sister. He would succeed where his father had failed.

They looked at me wide eyed and sobered up immediately. They said I was an Angel sent to them in their time of need. They handed me the remaining whiskey and I gave them a hug. I told them they would be all right. And that he was lucky to have two friends looking out for him.

I told them how I just broke up with my EX and had her arrested. They all looked at me and told me how lucky she was to have me as long as she did. We ended up making each other feel better. They helped me and I helped them.

I would again volunteer to help troubled kids get through the tough times they have growing up in dysfunctional families. AND I would eat a Las Vegas sized buffet of pasta, white rice, Wild Boar spareribs (w/extra sweet BBQ sauce) and desserts before my Cinderfella time was up!

I would start out with Smith Island Cake followed by Berger Cake and end with Berger Cookies. None of which can be bought outside of the State of Maryland. You can order them online.

Hi Andy,
if I could have anything I wanted to eat all day until midnight if I did one good deed, I would most definitely volunteer to work in a rape crisis center doing whatever they needed me to do. Then I would eat pasta until it ran out my ears. Then I 'd top it off with
hords of ice cream and cheesecake. It would make me sick from eating all those things but so well worth it. Happy Holidays,
Valentine Lady

I would do my best to help educate people with diabetes about health and fitness, about diet. Maybe people in other countries that don't have the education we have in the US. As for what I would partake, I'd have to eat home made bread, and reeses peanut butter cups. LOL, thanks HUGS, Heidi

Spelt flour and millet flours can be used for making bread. They need leavening so I use powdered buttermilk. Delicious and easy to substitute into your bread recipes. Usually can find these flours at Vitamin Cottage, Natural Grocers, Sprouts or online

I worked at Walmart for years but haven't worked in close to ten years now. When I am there shopping I still have people stop me and ask where something is. Don't know if it's because they recognize me from before or what but I don't mind helping anyone. So my good deed would be to help as many people as I can. My reward would be to be able to eat as much watermelon as I can hold.

My granddaddy was a watermelon farmer. When we were little, my cousin and I would ride the horses out to the melon field, find a big ripe melon to bust open, and eat to our heart's content. Thank you for mentioning watermelon and triggering those fond memories.

Gabby
GabbyPA 2014-12-23 09:07:02 -0600 Report

Pay it forward is a premise that you do an unrequited good deed for 3 people. The stipulation is that they also "pay it forward" and do good for 3 people and so on. You can see how it would affect many more people than just one outreach. There is a movie that inspired this action. It is called...."Pay It Forward" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pCtXRP1edo

I have two dogs who give me unconditional love and I try to pay it forward to family, friends, and anyone new that I meet. I really don't know what one good thing that I would do to get the "off" gift. I try to spontaneously do good deeds to help others automatically. However, to make up for not having Diabetes, I would have a hot fudge sundae or pie ala mode (whatever as long as there was ice cream).
