I am now eating a little dark chocolate just about everyday. I had a sample of fudge with bacon, a tiny bit of sea salt and red pepper flakes. It was awesome. I always test before eating it but most of the time I eat a small piece and I am fine. I find that the chocolate chips works best. I eat three and I have had enough.

These holiday times are so filled with temptations! I started making chocolate truffles for gifts yesterday (Peanut-butter pretzel; Chocolate chip coconut cookie dough; and maple walnut). I hardly bake or make candy anymore because its just too too tempting…yep, I had to bolus extra insulin for the sampling I did…after all, a cook has to taste their creations! And I still have yet to dip them in the chocolate! I do allow myself one square of good quality chocolate with a spoonful of all natural PB as a favorite snack…only 7 grams of carb…the key is to stop at just one!

I agree with Heidi, however I have a problem with once I get started I don't want to stop till it's all gone. I have had to find ways to manage to have my treat and not overindulge. I would give my Ice cream drumstick package to a friend here in the Apt complex with instructions only to give me one a week.

Now I can't have any of them as I am instructed that I am not to eat chocolate, or nuts, or ice cream due to my kidney disease for which I need dialysis.

I find other ways to treat myself.

Praying better health to you

James

I've always loved chocolate, my favorite food group LOL. But, i have only had chocolate once since I got serious on my eating plan. I will be making dark chocolate fudge and oreo cookie truffles to be Christmas gifts this week, and I intend on having ONE piece of fudge as a treat. I'll take the very smallest piece, and savor it. It is only my opinion, I know others may disagree with me, but if you totally deny yourself of treats ON OCCASION, you will regret it and be a very unhappy person. I'm not saying go hog wild, just allow yourself a small treat. Best of luck to you. HUGS, Heidi

Heiidi, I wouldn't worry too much if people will disagree with you. If you want that small piece of fudge as a treat go for it. The chocolate is not going to kill you and it might nor raise your bloods sugar. Go for it and enjoy and never let what others think that you should or shouldn't do worry you. I don't. Hugs to you.

Yes, I realize people disagree with me a lot, and I rarely worry too much about it. i don't over indulge, i take a treat now and then and love every second of it. I don't worry much about my day to day BG, if it spikes on a rare occasion it is balanced out in my A1c by the times I have lows.
