BG readings

Sometimes when I test, I get a number that I think is really off, so I will test again. If the two numbers are too far apart, I will test a third time and take the middle reading. Ie; today, while out it was time for me to test. The numbers were 76-88 and 77, So which one do I take? What do y'all do in this case or should I just go with the first read and not worry?

Howdy Sue
I only test a second time if my BG number is way off and I haven't consumed anything I would think would affect my BG that much. Example: I had eaten normally and ny BG read 220 — I washed my fingers again and it was back down in the normal range. Must have had something on my finger which affected the reading.

God's best to you

I don't know for sure, but testing several times in a row, may affect the meter itself. Your numbers are within the normal range, so use which ever number you want. Wait 15 minutes between testing to make sure the meter has returned to it's starting point. I think there is a 30 point error rate for meters.
Read you meter info. I know their tolerance is not perfect.

Another thing. Many things play into what your blood sugar level is. Exactly how much you ate and what it was you ate, how active you were earlier in the day. When you took any medication. Other things that affect your blood sugar. Stress level, how much adrenalin your body produced, how stressed you were under when you tested. That is why I stick with a very low carb diet.
That way I am not doing damage to my body and if I get an unusual reading,
I don't worry about it. If you blood sugar stays higher for a couple of days, then you need to look for the cause, I keep two meters that use the same strips on hand. That way I can test and compare to see if the meter is the cause.

if it seems WAY off I will test again, and sometimes a third time and go with the average. I will also test on a different finger each time of those tests. Those numbers are pretty close though, so I wouldn't worry too much. HUGS, Heidi

That is not a huge difference. As long as you are feeling well with those numbers, then I would not worry. Now if you are feeling funny, you may want to wait a few and test again to see if you are going down. Specially since you are at the low threshold with a 76. If it was time to eat, then I would eat my normal meal or snack and then test again afterwards.

I do the same thing though and usually if my numbers are within 20 points. I take the average of the 3.
