Not saying I wait until daylight saving time change to change my lancet (like you would your smoke detector) but I realized the other day that I have used less than 125 in the past 2 years.

Should I be expecting a visit from the diabetes police?

Seriously though … how often do you change yours?

(I use the ACCU-CHEKĀ® FastClix lancing device: )

Hi Steve,
I change my lancet everyday. Every morning as a ritual I change it. I have enough problems, I don' t need anyother problems. Besides , I've been doing it this way since I first became a diabetic. Valentine Lady

I use a fresh one every time I check my blood…and lately that has been about 6-8 times a day, because I started a new diet..and want to closely monitormy readings…but I use the relion brand and they are very inexpensive…btw so are the meters and strips…I recommend everyone get a relion monitor as their back up…because they are so inexpensive and I buy 100 strips for like 17 bucks..

I change my Lancet every couple of days or when I stop getting blood when I prick. Usually wash my hands well or use alcohol wipe so not worried about infection. It's not like I share supplies with anyone.

Howling laughter… 8 D

(I knew those *@#@*#(@ things were for something!) Dog tries to eat them at any occasion. The cat(s) love the colors and bat them like hockey pucks when they can get to them.

Change em whenever they stop getting blood, usually once a week, usually.

I change mine when it hurts that twice week or four month got change more often got infection in one my fingers and doc says because i dont change lancet much that got change finger and lancet!

haoleboy 2014-12-17 11:51:15 -0600 Report

important that you wash your hands before testing. many people will just use an alchol swab on the finger they are poking … but ignore the hand that is handling the lancet and meter. I use my alcohol swabs to keep my lancing device and meter clean … something that I think is often overlooked.

If you use rubbing alcohol to prep then the lancet changing is pretty much up til u feel it getting dull. Bi weekly is what I've been told? All the Best

Oh no! I change mine every time I check my sugars. Make sure my fingers are clean but still use an alcohol swab.

I change mine about once a week or if it starts to hurt to use it. I know we are supposed to change them every test, but I have not done that for years now.

Oh, you'e suppose to change it? Just kidding, but I am guilty of not changing it enough.

haoleboy 2014-12-16 19:30:55 -0600 Report

I always keep my lancing device clean and thoroughly wash my hands with soap and hot water prior to testing. As debzoe mentioned I will change when it gets painful as I figure the needle is starting to dull. Never had an infection.

I use Accuchek Multiclix. Change every 2 weeks now, with an average of 4 tests a day. Looks like I can stretch it to 3 weeks hereafter.

When it hurts to use. I know the producers have to cover themselves against us getting infections and such, but I have reused for years without problems.

In the beginning I changed it every time I tested because that's what they told me to do. Then I got lazy and changed it once a day. Then I learned here that most do not change so often. I decided to change once a week but I think I'm going on two weeks now. I may get around to just once a month at the rate I'm going, LOL

I'm probably in the same class as you Steve! Maybe, I change it once a month if that often…and I average 8 tests a day. I know I should change it more often but have never had any problems.

I use a new lancet every time I check my BS. I use the ReliOn Ultra Thin lancets.

Those are what I use..and I change every time I check as well…they are so inexpensive I cant see any reason to not use a fresh one every time..
