I am a type 1 diabetic…I am on Metformin and a insulin pump…my problem is when I eat less I get low sugars, so in turn I eat to bring my sugar up. It is like a vicious cycle… it is up and down and then I feel like crap am ill and still don't loose any weight.

Can anyone help me out? I feel so stupid, I have been a diabetic for 35yrs now, but never had issues til now.

Thanks for any response,

Sam,
If you don't eat and your bs drops too low, that's a pretty good indication that your basal rate is set too high.

If you'll do a week or two of consistent before and after meal testing (plus some bedtime and overnight tests), your doc should be able to help you adjust your settings so this doesn't happen. You should be able to eat less without dropping your blood sugar--just like a non-diabetic.

Best of luck.

You might want to check out your Pump. It should dispense a proper amount of insulin no matter how much u eat. You b.s. levels should fall in an acceptable range. Good luck. Pete

Have you tried adding walking to your daily routeen? I have found it helps a lot you will need to keep adding a block or so as you loose weight that is the only draw back.

I live out in the country, so a block is a lonnnnnnnnng way for me, lol. I usually walk an acre a day, lol. My backyard is one acre, and I walk about 5 laps at a brisk pace.

Sam, I'm having the same problems! I quit smoking a month ago, and still am dealing with certain issues. I'm on a pump too, but just that, no pills. I love Pop Tarts, and now that I don't smoke, I go for those when I'm bored. And you're right, the numbers go up and down so much it's not funny. I'm still looking for the answer.
