Tiredness

I was diagnosed 2 weeks ago with levels of over 29 after I experienced extreme thirst & going to the loo frequently for about a week. I was in hospital for a couple of days. They still don't know if I'm type 1 or 2. I'm on insulin but my levels are still high - around 11-18 during the day. I'm so tired all the time even though I'm sleeping well at night, & I just have no energy. Is this normal? Will it settle down once my levels stabilise? Thanks in advance x

WELCOME to DC.

The majority of us here on DC are from the USA so we may not understand your BG (blood glucose) measurements in mmol/l. There is an easy converter which translates mmol/l to mg/dl measurements here ~ http://www.soc-bdr.org/rds/authors/unit_table...

So your 29 mmol/l = 522.5 mg/dl. and a 11 mmol/l = 198.2 mg/dl

Yes i believe when you get your numbers down more towards "normal" 4.4 to 6.6 mmol/l for you, (80 to 120 mg/dl) you should feel more energetic.

I have cereal for breakfast (Cheerios or weetabix or something like that), I have salad with cheese & ham or tuna etc for lunch, and protein & veg for dinner. I have a slice of bread & butter or something similar with lunch & dinner (I've never been a potato/pasta lover). I love my chocolate, but now have only 2 little squares a day. I have nuts or low fat yogurt for snacks, sometimes no added sugar jelly (jello if you're in USA?!). I thought I was being 'good'… What do you think? Thanks

Yes, uncontrolled high blood sugars will make you feel tired and sleepy. What kind of dietary changes have you made since being diagnosed? That will be a big factor, in addition to the insulin that you take, in gaining control of your BG's. Determine how many carbs you are currently eating and establish a daily carb limit for yourself. For me, restricting my carbohydrates has been the largest factor in gaining control.
