I get hypoglycemia sometimes and I don't really know it, but I haven't gone in a coma yet. My mom is almost never home and when she is, she wouldn't know if I'm in a coma because I sleep a lot. How long could someone be in a coma if they didn't go to the hospital?

IMO, if I were your mom, depending on your age, I would take you to a doctor to find out why you sleep a lot. This can have an effect on being diabetic because you are not eating properly because you may be asleep and missing meals and not testing your blood sugar.

I will tell you this, I have taken several people to the ER in the back of an ambulance who were in diabetic coma's. One person didn't make it because he lived alone and no one called him until he missed work 2 days. Because it was the weekend no one missed him until he did not show up for work. Another man didn't make it because he was homeless an didn't have any medication. He was found in a tiny alley and no one had a clear view to see him lying there. It wasn't until a business owner went to gather his trash that this man was found.

No one can determine how long you would be in a coma unless the coma is medically induced. I think you either have to have your mom check on you frequently which might not happen because she isn't home often or you have to see a doctor to find out why you sleep a lot.

Going into a coma is not something you want to do at all but if you do, it could easily progress to death. Therefore, you need someone to check on you regularly even if you are only sleeping OR a ketone dog who would be responsible to wake you if he smells that your ketones have gone down too far. Therefore try to avoid becoming hypoglycemic by eating something before bedtime. Why do you sleep alot?

Howdy Diamika
You are asking a Question which has no definite answer IMO. When my kidneys were poisoning my body I spent about 6 nights on my bedroom floor before I came to.

I believe I was in a semi-comatose state drifting in and out of consciousness. It seemed to me as it was only one night because whenever I was more consious it was dark out. But I know I went to bed the night of Nov 1, and I got up on my son's birthday, Nov I lost some time there somewhere.

Of course you are asking about someone being fully comatose without medical care. It would depend on how well you were hydrated I think. As long as you are not sweating, you may be able to survive a week or even a little more.

I remember getting up from that semi-comatose state and my briefs were really a mess because I had let loose of my bowels sometime in that time period. (sorry if TMI - but that is the reality).

Now if you are asking about a coma due to hypoglycemia (low) that may be another question as it depends on how low you go, If you go too low you may die without medical intervention.

I know this may not be a satisfying answer.

Praying you never have to find out!
