have you found to be most nutritous w Healthy carboydrates, Lean meat, and most entries low in saturated Fat & Sodium?

My fav is El Pollo Loco. Your choice of Sugar Free Black and Pinto beans (legumes), Rice, fresh Vegatables and Hot fired chicken with low sodium:) Pollo does have wheat tortillas, but a not a + choice in carboys.

What Fast Foods do you recommend that are Healthy and Tasty meals?

If we eat out at a fast food place I usually bring my own low carb bun and skip the fries. If we go for mexican food I bring my own homemade chips for the salsa or queso. I make my own chips from low carb tortillas baked in the oven. I usually order fahitas and don't use the restaurant's tortillas. Sometimes I order a taco salad and skip the tortilla shell it is served in. This requires planning on my part and knowing where we are going ahead of time. If we are out and stop for fast food on impulse my choices are very limited. Most fast food places have limited choices for me.

I really like the way you plan ahead and even bring your own, lower carbohydrate foods to complement what you order. Great ideas! ~Lynn @Glucerna

Subway will make a salad out of any of their subs…so you get the meats/cheese/veggies without the carb-loaded bread. I also like Wendy's and McD's salads…just be careful to check the carb content of the salad and the dressing you use with it. My favorite-ever fast food is Taco Bell's Mexican Pizza but at 45 grams of carb it's at the top of my meal allowance for lunch or dinner, so I don't indulge very often.

I do not eat in fast food restaurants such as Burger King, McDonalds, Red Robin, Jimmy Johns, DQ or Taco Bell. I also don't eat Pizza at all so I don't go to pizza places either. I find the food to be to salty, lacks flavor and I am not sure if the beef is actually beef. However, I make an exception when it comes to Mission Bar B Que. They have really great Pulled Pork. I prefer to go to a restaurant where I can sit down and eat. I check out their menu prior to arrival so I know if they have foods I can eat.

I don't eat Mexican Foods unless I know what the carbs are in the foods. I find the food to be too salty for my taste. In my opinion there is no such thing as a healthy fast food restaurant. I have book that has the menu of ever major fast food businesses that list calories, carbs and sodium. They all either have too many carbs, way too much sodium and the calories are off the chart.

Stopped eating out years ago ever since I saw what goes on in the kitchens.

This is so very true. There is one restaurant in town here and u have to pass the kitchen to get to the bathroom and it make me sick to my stomach to see them running around in that kitchen with food and water all over the floor, they stand in it. NO one cleans the mess up as soon as it is dropped on the floor. Nope, I ended going there long ago. Complained to the manager that it was gross and disgusting to see not to mention extremely unsanitary.

I have also found this all to be true. When I eat out I get Edema really bad so bad my feet swell up and I can't even put a shoe on my left foot, yep, really. These restaurants do not have our health in mind, they over salt, over sweeten, over oil everything, even salads can be dangerous with the chemicals the put on them to keep them fresh looking. Best bet is to find a really good and healthy organic optional restaurant and go out to eat there as a treat every great once in awhile. More control you have over your food the better for your health.

I prefer to eat Mexican when eating out. I don't eat the salsa and chips that is an appetizer at all the restaurants here. I usually order the chicken fajitas but without the wraps. I have the rice and refried beans, No sour cream. Even better is that I have taught myself to make the fajitas at home and can adjust the amount of seasonings used to suit my needs. If I eat at any other sit down restaurants I will order a salad to cut down on portions of other menu items.

We don't eat out much unless we are traveling. My husband loves Mexican food so I order fahitas and bring my own tortillas. I pass on the rice as it spikes my glucose and I eat only a small portion of beans. I try to avoid the refried beans and order the charo beans, when available. I don't deny myself the guacamole and sour cream, :~) Sometimes I order the chile relleno or taco salad. At least I have options.

I have never heard of "sugar free" black beans. Why would anyone put sugar in their black beans?

We have a drive though at our Sonny's Bar-B-Q and I can order just pulled pork with steamed broccoli. I tell them to keep the garlic bread. My carbs come in the sauce I add to the pork.

The trick to most any of it for me is to leave the carbs in the kitchen. I am not disciplined enough to not eat it if it come out to me. So places that offer a carb covered protein, with two carb sides....they don't see my face. But when I can substitute a side salad for a side that helps me a lot.

So for the most part, fast food is not really on my radar. We do tend to eat out more of late, as I have not been cooking, but we go to a sit down restaurant where I have more control of what I can order.

Denoted both beans as 'sugar free' as some establishments add sugar to legumes for ?

GabbyPA 2014-12-07 19:35:27 -0600 Report

I never knew they did that. I don't do it at home, so I just thought it was kind of weird.

Pegsy 2014-12-15 18:17:37 -0600 Report

Recently I went to a potluck and someone brought green beans. I thought, WOW, I can have lots of green beans and piled plenty on my plate. With the first bite, I knew I was in trouble. Obviously loaded with sugar. Seriously!? I inquired and was told this was a Texas tradition. Hmmm. I have lived in TX for almost 20 years and this was my first experience with sugar in the green beans! I just never know what to expect.

GabbyPA 2014-12-16 07:08:38 -0600 Report

That is nuts. Why do that? Green beans are sacred to us. LOL We cannot ruin them with sugar. Yikes.

GabbyPA 2014-12-08 08:40:19 -0600 Report

Oh, I never knew that. I guess I don't mind mushy beans, I have never done that except to baked beans.

The only "fast food" place that I've found to be even remotely on my food plan would be Wendy's. A small chilli and side salad is not too bad. Not sure of the carb count on it, but it's not too high. I am craving big time to go to Chili's for a Chicken Fried steak dinner, comes with garlic mashed taters and corn on the cob and oh ya a nice margarita, but ya, that' probably won't be happening anytime soon LOL. I don't eat out often, even Wendy's as it doesn't fit into my budget.

GabbyPA 2014-12-07 07:43:05 -0600 Report

That is what I do often. My husband loves Wendy's, so I get a chili or if I do get a sandwich, I get a side salad with it. It at least helps. It's always better to try to eat at home. Or we go to a sit down where I can order a protein and steamed veggies or cottage cheese. Those are my go to items.

I like Arby's sandwiches. My favorite is the original Arby's roast beef on Hawaiian bun but right now I am not eating meat so I also like their turkey sandwich.
Generally, I am not a fast food person.

Howdy Michael
Like steve, I rarely eat fast food.
Of course I avoid fast food more due to my Kidney disease and dialysis as there are a lot of things I should not consume like any kind of dried bean (only green beans are OK).

Even at places like Ruby Tuesdays, which I have considered to be diabetes friendly, I have to be extremely careful of what I eat from a kidney standpoint.

God's best to you and yours
