I've been a diabetic since 2000. In the past year, I notice that when I have a wound, it doesn't heal period. It becomes a purpleish red bump that never goes away.Currently I have two bumps on my right hand and three smaller ones on the back of my neck. My dermatologist has given Clobetasol, but it's not very effective. Then I got kenalog injections. The injections are somewhat effective in reducing the size of the bump initially. One wound in my hand had already got three kenalog injections, but the purple bump is still there.

I'm wondering if anybody else is having the same problem. I've been looking for this kind of skin condition on the internet, but haven't been successful. Could this be related to my diabetes?

Hello Type1Lou, SandyFrazzini, Roxanne Bohnnow,
I appreciate and thank you for your replies.

I just have to accept that my wounds will now take longer to heal and therefore I need to protect my body from getting any new wounds.

How is your blood sugar control? As diabetics we are prone to healing more slowly, and as a result, susceptible to infections. It is additional motivation for me to improve my BG control.

It very well could be diabetic related, it seems like everything else is. Just make sure to keep an eye on it so you don't get any infections. Good luck.

People with diabetes tend to take longer to heal from wounds and some have strange anomalies that can not be explained. I get blood leaking up from under my skin on my arms and legs where there are no wounds or bruising. On my left palm is a rather large lump from having slipped and stabbed myself with a kitchen knife. That wound took over a month to heal. 4 years after having cut my leg open with a fly swatter and needing 6 stitches my leg still shows red splotches and imprint of the ER Doctors hand as he held onto my leg in order to stitch up the wound. I know how frustrating this can be when it comes to dealing with wounds. I hope your Doctor can figure this one out and fix your problem soon.
