Hi all! I'm a 50 yr old(turning 51 on the 13th of Nov) mom, grandma & domestic engineer named Dawn with type 2 diabetes & other health issues as well! I'm looking for people in my area to share experiences & info with. A hands on support group if you will…group discussions, activities, walking partners etc…

I'd love to chat and do online support, but also know that DC is a great support and filled with tons of information. I wish you luck in getting something started locally. One suggestion I have for you is to check with your local Diabetes Educator and see if they can put up brochures or fliers for you to get local people to meet, also if there is a bulletin board in your local doctors office that may help meet people with diabetes. Good luck, Heidi

I'd be happy to chat with you online as I am also new to this disease and am looking for all the knowledge and advice I can find. Unfortunately, I am way down here in Texas and online is the best I can do. Hope you can find some friends locally to help you.

Howdy Dawn
WELCOME to DC!

You fail to tell us where you are so folks wouldn't know where to look for such a support group.

I live in Las Vegas NV and we have here a group which meets monthly in a public library here on the 2nd Tu of the month. The group is called ADEMS and is run by a married couple who are in the medical field. You may wish to take a look at the webpage from this support group here ~ http://diabetes-lasvegas.org/

Chris and Theresa are very personable and they may be able to give you some pointers on how to run and maintain such a group. You can find their contact info in the website to which I sent you in the link.

Praying success on your endeavor

James.
