Hi Friends, What is the best time to check BG after a meal? If I'm having my dinner between 7:00 to 7:30 pm, 2 hour after meal should be at (a) 9:00 pm, (b) 9:30 pm or (c) 9:15 pm. Pl advice. Thanks!

Generally speaking, most folks hit the peak of the meal around 2 hours after eating. You want to go 2 hours after you start your meal, not after you finish.

Another thing that is good to do is find out when you do actually tend to hit your peak. I learned this by testing every 30 minutes after my meals until the number starts to drop. I did this for about a week to see when I actually tend to him my peak. And different foods will cause different time frames. For me typically the 2 hour rule works. But if I have something that is higher if fat like a slice of pizza or something fried, it can take longer to reach the peak.

Two hours post meal is a great time to check BG and just before eating is another good time so you have an idea how much your sugar goes up and down during the day.

another best time to test one's BG is right before bedtime. If one's BG is on the lower side of normal, (70 -130 mg/dl) it would be good to consume a snack consisting of a complex carb (like an apple slice) paired with a protein (like peanut butter). That would help prevent a liver dump and higher BG levels upon awakening.
