It seems there is a connection between thyroid and diabetes for many of us. I guess when one hormone goes nuts, they all do. I found this slide show on foods to avoid if you have a hypothyroid and it was a shock.

Many of the good low carb veggies are on that list, along with coffee and then of course the things we tend to avoid anyway. But I still suddenly felt much more restricted. I love my broccoli!

Howdy Gabby
I believe that my hypothroid has improved since I have been on my new meal plan and going through the slide show I think I know why. Many of the no nos I saw there on the slide show, I already avoid due to my meal plan.

Thanks for sharing

BTW have you shared this in Hypothyroid Connect?

Gabby, I love my broccoli also but have done without lots of the other things all my life due to the fact that I was born without a thyroid gland and have taken thyroid/synthroid meds since I was 3-4 weeks old. I have broccoli once a week or so but since my grandsons all love it, I don't get much anyway :-)

Cooking the cruciferous veggies (Broccoli etc) reduces the their negative effect…good to know! I've been on thyroid meds since the 1980's and, every so often, the dosage needs adjustment…several times in the last 2 years. Is this for dietary reasons, or changes in my body as it ages or a combo of both? My diet hasn't really changed much in that time period. I always take my thyroid med with water 30 minutes to an hour before eating breakfast.
