okay. So first id like to say hello. I'm new to This, but I'll try my best? c: Alrighty. Well I've got a bit of a problem you could say? I've fallen into the habit of skipping meals. Eating disorder problem… But because I have to go to the nurse in school BEFORE lunch, she writes down my numbers, carbs, and units. When my information is downloaded to the doctors, they can see if I'm getting bloused at lunch. I don't know what to do.. I don't want to eat, but I don't want anyone to know really. So I'm sharing here..

Don't you get shacky if you don't eat? Are you trying to lose weight because you are not eating? Is something bothering you? I suggest you talk to someone you feel comfortable with and get some help. Linda

You need to find someone that can help that understands all of this. Eating disorders in a diabetic are so much more complex. I used to wrestle and would skip shots and eat more to cut weight. 20-25 pounds in a day. Sounded great until I wound up in the ER with DKA, and now that I'm in my 40's and down to 1 eye, I kind of wish I had been a little more realistic about my disease. Self image, fear of lows, wanting to avoid the disease, wanting a little privacy, or just plain not wanting to eat; these are all understandable thoughts and fears. Find a professional that can help you deal with what is on your mind.
For me being a diabetic has been an almost 30 year learning process, the crappy part is that I wasn't ready to learn until after some of the damage had been done and was too late to be undone. Some of these terms get thrown around so loosely, I was dx'd at 15, and I honestly believe that every T1 diabetic, especially in High school-early 20's has some form of what could be called an eating disorder. I know that I felt like I had more control over my body than the next guy because I could force myself to go Ketonic, and eat, and lose weight, while the next guy was eating celery sticks to drop 1 pound. That was an eating disorder and I was very misguided, and paying for it to this day.

Hi and welcome to DC, diabetic connect. It is great you felt you
could come here for advice. Before we go on I just have to know
what is bloused? I'm an old lady, I don't know these terms. Please do tell me. First of all you admit to an eating disorder. We both know that's serious stuff . I had a serious problem and so
do you. But, non the less, as a diabetic you can not skip meals.
So how mamy people have already told you that? I'm not here
to lecture you and I am going to tell you to get into an eating
disorders group, your Doctor should be able to help you with
that. Also, ask him to get you started in class for diabetics. You
may think that you have all the answers, but it's obvious you
don't. Actually you sound very concerned about you as I am.
Yoi write to me as often as ypi like.. I will always answer?
Hugs to you, Valentine Lady

You really have to eat something when you take your meds, and skipping your meds will get you in all kinds of trouble. For one thing your organs could start to shut down and you don't want that. Then again taking your meds and not eating can cause you to go into what I like to call a crash and burn. This happened to my husband last winter right when we were having a huge amount of snow being dumped in our area. My husband didn't know who I was or who he was for that mater. I tried to get some juice into him and he became combative, fighting me all the way. I finally had to call 911 and get some help. It took the rescue team a while to get through the snow and the ambulance even longer. My husband ended up in the hospital for five days. So please talk to your doctor. And in the mean time put some nuts in your pocket. Almonds or pecans are good. Not peanuts. It doesn't matter if you only eat a little bit, so long as you do eat something when you take your meds. Be well and be safe.

II think the best thing for you to do is to talk to a doctor and have him refer you to a therapist. For people with an eating disorder, there could be underlying problems. Telling us is the first step but people on this site are not professionals and can only give opinions that more or less will or will not help you.

Talk to the school nurse, then your doctor. The first step is going to be harder because you are telling someone face to face. The end result is that you are going to get the help you need.

Gabby,

I have heard that a lot of folks have tried to control their weight or meals as a diabetic by not eating or skipping meals and then not taking insulin and trying to use them as excuses for each other. This is not safe and not healthy.

If you believe you may have an ED you really should try talking to a nurse at school or a counselor. They may really be able to help you out. Diabetes is so difficult to manage and if you starting adding into the mix skipping meals and taking your bolus you are going to get yourself into trouble fast.
Please take the necessary steps to take care of yourself in a healthy way. You can be fit and healthy with diabetes it just may mean you need to work a little harder than others.

Good luck and keep us posted on how you are doing.

Neil

If your eating disorder is causing you to skip meals, I think we have a deeper issue than just your bolus. Your doctor needs to know what is going on and maybe try to find a way to get you into a healthy routine. It is nothing to be ashamed of or hide. People have all kinds of "secrets" but often secrets lead to bigger problems.

Maybe spreading out meals and making them smaller will help? Finding something you really enjoy eating might give you something to look forward to instead of trying to avoid.

Every young person kind of expects to grow up and things like this can really mess that growing up process. I am sure you have dreams and want to do things in and with your life. Maybe pick one of your biggest dreams and focus on how to get there. I bet you will find eating to keep healthy will be a big part of that.

Howdy Angel
WELCOME to DC!

What do you mean by "getting bloused"? I am not familiar with that term. Looking it up on the urban dictionary has the term "bloused" = to get drunk but I don't think that is happening while you are at school. so I suspect there is another meaning. (I am fascinated by unusual uses of words)

I checked with your profile and you have no place name listed. Where are you from?

It is certainly not good to continue with the eating disorder. I expect it is making your BG (blood glucose) go crazy. I would say that it would be best if you were up front about not wanting to eat anything with your school nurse and let her take it from there.

Praying you will make the nealthy choice, even if you don't want to do so.

James

James these days kids drink and get high in schools all across this country. I was trying to figure out what Bloused meant also. I live in an urban environment and I am not familiar with the terms kids use today. I always have to ask them to either speak English or explain what they are saying.

when i see a new and unfamiliar term I will look it up in a slang dictionary like the urban dictionary. but couldn't find an appropriate meaning that made sense.
