I am new here and would really like to make friends with people who have a pump or are considering it or really anyone who is having a rough time with diabetes right now!

I too am new to DC. I've been a T1 for 3 1/2 yrs I got my Minimed Paradigm pump 2 months after my Dx thanks to my awesome Endo. I llloooooooove it! I am having a rough time. I feel like I'm in T1 rebellion. I know the dangers of not taking care of myself, I know what I need to do to take care of myself. I just am sick of being fat- I am 40 lbs heavier than I was when I was diagnosed. I am beginning to take back control but still feeling rebellious at times. I'll get there. I just need to have a good stern talk w myself and start exercising and eating correctly. It does get to be a lot to deal with sometimes and I am glad that I can see where I am in this- should make it easier to get back on track. Best of luck to you.

I am still waiting for my pump, its been about a month and a half and I am frustrated, I already have neuropathy and I don't want anymore complications. I take supplements to help me lose weight and they are natural so no harm done. I started jogging/running with an app on my phone and lost weight with it too, it wasn't easy at first but if you're determined it will help even just walking. Good luck!

I don't have a pump yet but at my last appt I told my doctor I wanted one, my biggest worries are if it is painful and if they cause you to gain weight

I've never had any pain from my pump, ok no more than from a shot. And I actually lost weight when I quit Lantus and just used Humalog. Best of luck.

Hi hjenkins! Welcome to DC. I have had diabetes for 38 years, having been diagnosed at age 27, but only began using a pump in 2011. I LOVE pumping! I had been on MDI (Multiple Daily Injections) of Lantus and Novolog prior to pumping and had resisted going on a pump for years because I didn't want to be connected to something 24/7. I'm now sorry I waited so long. Pumping has enabled me to gain better control with less overall insulin. My last A1c was 6.6. I have been using a Medtronic Minimed 523 pump and would upgrade to their 530G with Enlite pump if only Medicare would cover the Enlite CGM! I do not currently use a CGM which would enable me to further fine-tune my control. I would love to use a CGM to be able to figure out what is going on with my higher fastings, probably due to Dawn Phenomenon. If you have specific pumping questions, please don't hesitate to ask. There are many pump users here with varying experience on different brands of pumps.
