I had an appointment on Wednesday for a lab to find out my new A1C but I couldn't wait so I went today. The clinical pharmacist that I work with wanted me to be between 6 and 7, I was shooting for a 5 since my daily readings were so good. She called around 11:00am just as I was leaving for a bike ride. My new A1C is 5.5 which is awesome. I celebrated by riding 15 miles instead of the 11 that I was going to do. I'm pretty jazzed as I've gone from 14.7 in May to 5.5 today. Hooray!!!

I love riding my bike so even though it is exercise, it does not feel like it. The Jillian Michaels workouts definitely feel like exercise. I took my dvd's with me to work out while I was in Orlando but obviously could not take my weights. Actually, I say obviously but I had planned to take them with me as they are only 3 lbs each but my hubby nixed that since we only took one suitcase.

I decided to go to the little store at the resort and buy two containers of water the same size to use as weights and then use them to drink after the Jillian workout. I was in the store lifting bottles to see if they were heavy enough but easy to hold. I had found some 28 oz. containers but they were square and difficult to hold while holding above my head. I grabbed two bottles put them over my head and the tried bringing them down behind my head. I dropped one when the cashier came over and asked what I was doing :-)

I ended up with two 20 oz bottles that worked pretty good and used one of them while I was at the gym on the recumbent bicycle. I did not like the gym bicycle but did go 11 miles on it and parts of it were pretty tough. I'd much rather ride outside and see the hills that I'm going to ride up in person.

Congratulations! That's is a wonderful feeling isn't it? In may I had an a1c of 17! Without insurance it was really hard to get the medication that I needed. Insulin is expensive! but like you I've managed to lower it to 8.6 which is amazing! here's to us both reach our goals! Keep up the great work!

Good job, Courtney. It does take hard work to get it down. I didn't have health insurance for a few years but luckily I'm a veteran and get my care at the VA.

Hey debcox, this is great news. Thanks for sharing it. I got a very visual picture of you lifting those water bottles at the store. :)) Congratulations!

That's wonderful news Deb! I know exercise is the way to go. Since I've been sick my sugar is high. I just don't feel like working out and it shows in the numbers! I did finally go to the doctor and get some meds for this nasty cold. I feel a little better today. So maybe tomorrow back to walking. I need to do more! I don't know how you find the time to do all you do. I guess I just need to stop making excuses and get too it lol . I also watch my grandson whom is 2 years old and the apple of my eye : O ) from 2 am until 3 or 4 pm everyday except weekends! That's a workout in its self . he sure keeps me hopping lol. I think I just got to get into a routine and stick to it! Anyhow again so proud of you, that's wonderful! Have a great day and keep up the good work!

Deb, It is really hard making time to exercise. All three of my grandsons are in school this year from 7:30am - 3:00pm so I now have some time to myself. Last year was a totally different story. I do an 75 minute ride every morning with my neighbor from 5:45 - 7:00. I have to be here by 7:00 because I wave to all three boys from my porch on their way to school. My hubby takes the two older boys and the my daughter takes her youngest because he goes to school right by the gym where she works out. If the weather is nice, I sneak in another 5-10 mile ride after breakfast. Then, I do my work out. I have to tell you that taking care of myself seems to be a full time job. I schedule everything around my workouts because it is the most important thing to me right now outside. My #1 goal is making sure that I take care of myself so that I am around to take care of my family.

Deb I think you said it best when you said.. You schedule everything around your work-outs and You take care of yourself too be around for family. Thanks, I need too do this. I worry about things that aren't going to get done, if I am not here anyhow! So I am going to try and do just this! I am going to put me first! I never thought about it that way! : O ) You really inspire me !

Congratulations! You've reached MY goal, LOL. I love how you celebrated with a longer bike ride. Something I would do.

I don't care much for Jillian Michael's workouts. Have you tried Leslie Sansone, with weights?

Hello Pegsy, I've been so happy all day with this new number.

I really like the Jillian Michael's workouts but they are brutal. I started in July with borrowed discs 1 & 2 and did them for a month. Then, I decided to purchase the "Body Revolution" set. I'm on discs 7 & 8 now and the first week in October, I will be going to discs 9 & 10. While on vacation I decided to go low key so I took discs 1 & 2. Wow, I remembered them being much more difficult. Amazing, how my perspective changed in such a short time.

When I am done with this program (about a month from now), I will check into Leslie Sansone. It might make a good Christmas gift from my hubby.

I got a new fitbit and have added walking to my biking and workout regimens. Actually, I watch my grandsons during the afternoons and stay pretty busy so I don't have to walk much more to get in 10K steps a day. I was at 9,100 at 8:00 so I walked over to my daughter's house (across the street and 100 steps away) with my grand-puppy, around her driveway and then home but still didn't have enough so I walked around my driveway 5 times and got my steps in for the day.

Well, it is 12:30 am and I have to be out the door at 5:30 for my bike ride with my girlfriend so I have to hit the sack. A nap is definitely in order for me tomorrow before the boys come home.

Pegsy 2014-09-23 07:42:37 -0500 Report

Leslie Sansone is tame compared to Jillian Michaels but is adequate for my needs. I'm on my feet nearly all day so getting 10K steps a day is something I don't even track anymore. Hope you have a great bike ride!

Congratulations on lowering your A1c! I love the way you celebrated with a longer bike ride, and I'm with you: I'd much rather exercise outdoors rather than inside. ~Lynn @Glucerna
