Congratulations! That is fantastic. Sometimes our bodies get used to what you are doing, so maybe your husband could change it up a bit on his walking routine to avoid the extra meds.

Dear Deb, Thanks for the good news. You have something I do not have however, you can exercise. After 26 operations, 6 on my spine & 2 knee replacements, I am very limited on exercising, walking with 2 canes, using a mobility scooter, can't bend, lift, or twist. It makes it hard to do much. My balance is not good and because of my knee replacements they were not able to achieve balance exercises. So I just do the few things I can do and don't worry about the rest. I have been told that giving my insulin shots in my belly helps pack the fat on. Take care & God bless. Pastor Naomi

Naomi: ". . . insulin shots in my belly helps pack the fat on." True! However there is a bit more to it. If one has more glucose in one's blood than necessary for bodily needs, then the insulin (whether injected or naturally produced by the pancreas) will open one's fat cells to fill them with the excess glucose for storage. So the amount of carbohydrates one consumes per day is vital. If one has fewer carbs to convert to glucose the less glucose is in one's system to convert to fat storage.

God bless you as well Naomi

Dear James, I count carbs daily and I monitor every morsel or else I would weigh mega-tons. I try to eat as few carbs as possible, but the truth remains, that I am one of those people who gain weight on a 1000 calorie diet. It does not help my body strength or ability to stay up and active all day. As I said before, I have tried every item Dr. Oz claimed helped people lose weight & used several items for more than 6 months, hoping against hope that something would work. I even tried that Lipozene pill for 18 months. I just started something new from BioTrust Nutrition, and I got enough for a 3 months trial. I have been on that for 3 weeks and do not see any changes either. This has become most frustrating. I was told by the Nutrition person at our local hospital to eat no more than 5 carbs per day. But that gives me no energy, and ability to keep going thru my day. If I ever find something that does work for me, I will shout it from the rooftops of Buffalo. Thanks for the encouragement. It feels like a hopeless situation. God bless! Pastor Naomi

Naomi
No more than 5 carbs PER DAY? I'd find a new nutrition person! No wonder you are having trouble if you're following that advice.
My meal plan gives me more than that! I believe you've seen my meal plan, but if not, ask me and I'll send it to you.

Dear Pastor Naomi, was reading through this discussion and found your comments to James. Both of us have discovered that eliminating all but a very few carbs works I have lost 72 pounds in 6

months by eliminating everything white. All breads and bread products. White flour rice etc. James lost 68 pounds.
We both keep our dairy low, although I drink milk and he
eats cottage cheese. I am on the Atkins diet, he had his own eating plan. Both are very similar. Their both
great for diabetes. My A1C is. 5.0 l think his is 5.5. It's
worthh a thought. May God Bless you…

Congrats on the weight loss. I can't imagine walking that much with the disabilities I have. I too am trying to loose weight, but am using Dr. prescribed weight loss pills. I had gotten up to 209 and am now down to 179 ! 30 lbs. in 3 months, plus I use another trick of my own, I eat shaved ice all day long and drink a lot of water. Also I eat a lot of watermelon. Not only a natural diuretic but full of natural antioxidents. I also have been taking a water pill once a day for the swelling in my feet which I'm sure helps, but as of Thurs, I had to cut my water pill in half. Nephrologists orders, I just recently found out I have Stage III Chronic Kidney Disease. (I'm scared to death). Scared too about what Pastor Naomi said about no thyroid, no weight loss. I am looking at possible thyroid removal. I have already had surgery on my para-thyroid years ago. I thought they took my entire thyroid but evidently not or I would not have hyperthyroidism right now. To top all that off I will be having my gallbladder removed sometime in the next few weeks. But enough about me. I didn't mean to steal your thunder as they say. I pray all goes well with both your and your husbands doctor apts. I don't know if this is an option you want or can try but the weight loss medication I am on is called Phentermine 37.5 mg 1 time a day. You have a great weekend too.

" I eat shaved ice all day long and drink a lot of water"
" I also have been taking a water pill once a day "
that's a bit of a head scratcher

HI,
Are you eating the ice and drinking the water to loose weight? Or are you saying that taking a water pill and drinking a lot of water even in the form of ice makes no sense?

Hi, Ann, this is great to hear. It is something I can never achieve, but I wish. I have spent the past 40 years trying to lose weight. I do not even eat a lot, but I am unable to lose weight, even trying everything Dr. Oz recommended. When you have no thyroid at all, your metabolism is shot, so no weight loss. Keep up the good work. Pastor Naomi,
I was born without a thyroid and while it is difficult to lose weight, it is not impossible. I count carbs meal by meal and keep a daily tally. I ride my bike 11-15 miles a day and do a 30 minute workout. I've lost 46 lbs in 8 months. Deb
