I have been using an insulin pump for nearly 15 years and have loved it. but I am having a really hard time getting my blood sugars to stabilize after having a baby 8 months ago. I have been thinking of going back to using an insulin pen instead of the pump to see if the change could help me reset my system or something in order to get control of the blood sugars. Does anyone have any experience with going from the pump back to shots? Is it a good idea?

I would NEVER go back to a pump.

Offer me a million dollars cash money, and I might contemplate it. However, until they are closed-loop, and entirely "sentient" I would never consider one again, not a second time.

If the fatal design flaws are fixed, the weekly site infections are eliminated, the tubing stops getting eaten/played with by the cat in the middle of the night 8 D, it will stick to my skin somewhere without needing lessons from the U Penn Mummies to keep it in place for more than a second or two (sic. literally)… it never worked with my job (martial arts instructor). Add in the folks who forced me to get one, made serious money by doing so, proscribing, tweaking, counseling, advising.,, it never worked as it was marketed for me.

Never… -grim frown-

So no thanks you can have mine… I'll keep shots and won't go back to such tech again at least never voluntarily… once the CGM and the pump are closed loop, I might revisit, but its a long ways away until they do.

Shots are just fine.

Jeanette, I can't speak to this directly but I remember some discussion about people taking "Pump vacations" and going back to MDI for a while…one DC member did that every summer, if I recall correctly. (Can't remember his name). My sense would be try it and if it works better for you for a while it was worth it. If you find it doesn't work any better, you can always restart pumping. Wishing you well!
