How does everyone deal with cravings for sugary and caffeine filled drinks? I have substituted diet sodas. I know long term this isn't good, but soda was my energy beverage. I am having a hard time dropping the soda cravings , but I have not had a real sweetened one since being diagnosed. Thank god I like drinking unsweetened iced teas. What other beverages does everyone else drink instead of soda?

I don't like the taste of diet soda that much so when I quit soda I switched to diet Snapple teas. Eventually I will switch to completely herbal caffeine free iced tea made at home. But for me baby steps work better. I usually drink water and have most of my adult life kept a jug of water at my desk. I only drink something other than water at lunch time. Sometimes I have milk with breakfast depending on what else I am eating. That' about it.

I really like plain mineral water for the carbonation, and sometimes I add a slice of lime or lemon. It's often the combination of caffeine and sugar that we crave, and reducing caffeine as well as the sweet taste will help you truly leave the cravings behind. ~Lynn @Glucerna

Decaf tea and water are my go to drinks. No sweet in either. For a nice change up, I add a fruit flavored herbal tea to my tea blend to give it a little extra flavor. I also like what I called a Citrus Fresh :
It's very refreshing.

Another favorite of mine is a blend of coconut water, lime and truvia. I mix it all in a big glass of ice water and it's an indulgent drink with only 5 carbs. (depending on the coconut water you use)

I like coffee, but I have to doctor it up a lot. So I can't drink it like I used to. I put cream and flavors in there. If I can stick to cream and not sugar free creamers, I do better. Then I can sweeten it with stevia, which is my sweetener of choice.

There are some drinks out there made with stevia instead of aspartame or sucurlose and I will pick those if I can. There is "life water" that has fruit flavors that I like, but I still only drink them once in a while.

But sometimes, I just crave the bubbles and I will get a diet soda. The only time though is when we are out. I don't keep soda in the house anymore.

Howdy PE
I use the "water enhancers" (like Mio) to substitute for sodas.

I usually drink filtered water out of a Brita bottle, but sometimes I just get a hankering to taste something more than just plain water and then I drink water flavored by a water enhancer.

God's best to you

Water is the best - Try squeezing a little lemon or lime in it. If you will add super nutritional supplements as well, you will eventually be able to give up the diet drinks. I was hooked on Diet Coke for many, many years…but once I did these things I was able to wean myself away. (Still drink one a week - That's my reward for all my hard work on diet and exercise) Ha, ha :)

Good luck to you!
