Good morning Everyone!
I am coming up on my 65th birthday next month and I have decided to challenge myself and any of you that would like to participate. This is an exercise challenge.

Even though I was diagnosed Type 1 over 20 years ago, I have been able to maintain very good health through nutrition and exercise ( and insulin, of course). I have exercised fairly regularly by "Walking Away the Pounds" video exercise, starting several years ago with the 1 mile walk. At that time I could only go about 1/2 mile before I had to quit. I then worked up to doing the 2 miles walk most of the time and rarely, the 3 mile walk. Now I am challenging myself to do at least the 3 mile walk every day and add the 4 mile walk! I did that one for the first time today~ Yay!

Come on and try to exercise with me! You can do anything, but I am going to walk 6 days a week until my birthday in October. I started about 10 days ago, and have only missed 1 scheduled day, because of company over the Labor Day weekend.

I'll check back every few days and let you know how my plan is going. (And by the way, I am not going to stop after my birthday…just have that as a goal to get to.) Right now I feel like Super Woman! I feel strong!

Let's do this! (and have a great day),

Just wanted to let everyone know that I reached my goal and my birthday! :) I walked 3-4 miles 6 days a week until October 25 and then Danny and I did our first 5K on November 8, benefitting the American Diabetes Association. Not bad for a 65 and a 68 year old.

We are in the best health of our last 20 years and feeling better all the time.
Happy Thanksgiving to all~

Checking in this week with my stats…I have walked 6 days this week (2 miles each day, except for today when I went 3 miles). That's 13 miles for the week. My hubby and I have signed up for the 5K Step Out ADA Walk/Run in Grand Praire, TX on November 8.

This is the first 5K we have ever participated in and we are PUMPED! Hopefully we will be able to run at least part way. Not bad for 65 and 67 year olds!

Have a great weekend, Everyone~

Good morning everyone! I have 3 weeks to go until my 65th birthday! I started this thread a month ago and it was 2 weeks before that , that I started my walking challenge. So, this week I walked 6 days, 2,2,3,3,3,3, (that's 16 miles this week).
Hubby and I are thinking about our first 5K in November! We will probably walk most of the way. It's an ADA walk in Grand Prairie, TX. Anybody want to join us? Would love to meet some of you~
Have a great weekend!
Patti :)

Good morning Everyone!

I'm just checking in today - I've got about 5 weeks left until my birthday and I'm proud of myself and all of you that are exercising along with me. I went 2 miles on Sunday, 3 miles each of the following 4 days and 4 miles today…

That's 18 miles this week. Some days I used 2 pound weights in each hand for parts of the work-outs.

Best wishes to everyone and have a great weekend! I'm taking tomorrow off~

Wonderful !!! Proud of you. I will take your challenge , But with a bad hip, I will ride my stationary bike for 30 min. a day or more.
Thanks for the encouragement .

Great goal, Papa C. I just finished my 3 mile walk today…It's funny how some days are easier than others. I am even thinking about doing a 5K…have never been able to run very far, but maybe I can part run/part walk.
A bike sounds good to me as well. Maybe I'll follow your lead with a stationary bike after my challenge is up~ Thanks for the support! :)

I'm just checking in today to keep myself accountable for this challenge to myself. I have walked 6 days this week…1 day I walked 4 miles, 5 days I walked 3 miles. Some days were much easier than others and some days I told myself I might skip…but I didn't!

That's 19 miles this week friends. Not bad for an "almost 65 year old". Good luck to all of you and I am taking tomorrow off! :)

Hey Everyone!

It's Monday morning and I'm fixing to go on a 4 mile exercise video walk! Saturday I took off my 1 day per week and Sunday I went 3 miles. Had to talk myself into it, but today I'm glad I did! I feel like I'm raring to go!

I hope some of you will join me in a daily exercise this week! Just do what you can and increase each time~

See you later,

You rock and you inspire me to do much better in the exercise department. So yes i except your challenge to do much better and I will be walking and as I do I will be thinking of you and your goals as I set my own goals.

At my Dr's office there are two posters on the wall that I can see when I check in at the desk. I just love them. One is a man and one is a woman probably in their 70s both very fit and in swimsuits. Written on the posters "aging is not for sissys".

Thanks Pam! Maybe by the time I reach 70 I'll be ready for that swimsuit photo! Ha, ha! Thanks for inspiring me~

The videos that I walk with are found on YouTube, so anyone that wants can choose their length of walk (just look up Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds).

I did my 3 mile walk today and feel great!

Y'all have a great weekend!
Patti :)

Howdy Belle!

Congrats at nearly reaching 65.

Also congratulations in doing the 4 mile walk. YOU GO GIRL!

Unfortunately I will not be joining you in the walk as I have burning neuropathy in my feet, but I will be cheering you on from the sidelines!

God's best to you
James Baker.

Thanks for the encouragement, James. And sorry for your neuropathy pain…I experienced the beginning of that pain, but was able to nip it in the bud, so to speak…I know it really hurts~
