Hello everyone,

I just joined diabetic connect by default when I was searching for other healthier alternatives to help me with my type 2 diabetes and it lead me to this page. I was diagnosed 25 years ago and have not been good at taking care of myself. So I need to start taking this more seriously. I hope that being a member of the Diabetic Connect will help me manage and take better care of myself So question? Anyone know about protein in the urine? Any feedback regarding what will help besides me taking control of my numbers and lowering them. My A1C is horrible - 10.3. I read about olive oil, glucacin? Not sure how it's spelled What will help that is not pharmaceutical based? Any suggestions will be appreciated.
I look forward to coming here more often to get help.

Thanks,

Marbleman

Welcome! I'm glad you're ready to take managing diabetes more seriously, and it sounds like you're already planning on meeting with a diabetes educator to gain more knowledge and also figure out how to lower your A1c with changes in eating habits and exercise. That's an excellent start! ~Lynn @Glucerna

Hi Marbleman and welcome

What did your doctor have to say about the protein in your urine? I am assuming it was high. the concern (particularly for diabetics) is that it can be an indication of kidney disease.Your doctor should be all over this … if not you need a new doctor STAT!

Are you on any medications now? In my very non-medical opinion you probably should be on Metformin at the very least. I understand your desire for a non-pharmaceutical alternative … but I am afraid that ship may have sailed … at least for now.

Not being a fan of "miracle cures" I believe your best course is to work hard on getting your blood glucose levels down with exercise and a low carbohydrate diet. Your doctor should set you up with a registered dietitian to get you started on that.

Hello haoleboy,

Thanks for your input. I do appreciate it. My doctor said it showing traces of protein at the beginning stages. No medication for this has been subscribed yet. She said it's not needed. But is trying to get my A1 down. I am on Metformin and on insulin Humalog. It's helping but not as much as I would have liked. Yes, I need to exercise. Walking does wonders. I agree that I need to take this more serious to get my numbers in order.

Thanks,

Joe
