I am so happy!! On April 21, I entered the hospital with over 50 pulmonary embolius and new onset of diabetes. My sugar was 259 and they did an A1C that was 9.0.. As of yesterday, I am 44 pounds down. My sugar is 81 and my A1C is 6.0. Yeah.. So, I am going to continue what I am doing and do 40 carbs each day and 15 per snack.. The thing I am doing is making sure if I have equal carbs per day. So, if I eat 35 carbs for breakfast, then I do the same thing for lunch and dinner.

I want to thank everyone for all their advice.. You guys are so wonderful and it is great having such great people and support!! Can't wait to continue this journey and see what the next 3 months bring!! Mary

wow congrats!! what kinds of foods are you eating? I cant survive on that low low number of carbs, I need more, but I am trying to cut down for sure. I have got into a rut lately.

Hi guys.. Well, I started first what all you guys suggested. Eat and test my sugar and see what foods made it high or okay.. I grew up on meat and potatoes. (only American food) I never cared for dressing either. So,I love breakfast. Never have eaten breakfast until I got sick in April. I eat 2 pieces of toast (nature own, honey wheat, 19 carbs with cheese (sometimes) but turkey sausage which I love and watermelon and canteloupe. Then if I want pasta, I will eat it during the day. I will eat Dreamfield pasta. (no more than twice a week).. I will eat steak, hamburger (grass fed) pork, chicken,(I will eat a hamburger but no bun and a few french fries.. steak and potato with beans.. At dinner it is usually fish and potato.. I will eat peanuts for snack, sunflower seeds are great.. my favorite is breyer smart carb chocolate ice cream for my snack with a cone!!. I eat plenty of food (tabby) I now eat cherry tic tacs!! yummy.. As a snack.. chips ahoy..but I count the carbs. Sometimes my job doesn't allow me a break or lunch.. So, I will have a pocket of grapes and cookies..or peanut butter with a couple crackers.. but (not the best..) . just to level out the carbs I need. It works for me.. so, I am going to continue.. I eat what I want.. and wish I had started this years ago!!! I drink water and lemonade and orange crystal light with one diet pepsi a day.. Wow, thanks for all of the info. Congratulations on the weight loss and the great numbers. I was finally getting my numbers where I wanted them but this week I had some real highs an real lows in the same day. I actually passed out a couple of nights ago. I was doing better when I ate breakfast too. Guess you have given me a lot to think about. Thank you. Another Mary

I eat Nature's Own bread too, others may taste better to me, but that one is one of the lowest carbs breads I can find in my area, plus it has no high fructose corn syrup, no artificial flavors, etc. I eat Dreamfield pasta too, and also another one that works for me in Ronzoni Smart Taste, they have lots of fiber. I try to eat a variety of nuts, and sunflower seeds daily too.
