There are days when I do not get on this site, but not often. I try to be here at least once a day and catch up on the latest "gossip" and stay in touch. However, I have noticed, especially when I do not get on here for a day, I will have over 100 Notifications! Why?
So, my question is this; How do you shut off the notifications of "so and so" is now friends with "so and so"? I don't mind the notifications that let us know when a new topic has been started or someone has commented/liked/favorited a discussion or recipe, but the friends notifications? Really?

Also, the one where it says "so and so" just updated their profile image. Do we need these notifications? It looks like the only way to upload pictures is to "update" your profile image. I see quite a few of these notifications as well., sometimes pages full!

Ok, that ends my rant, for now… LOL I'm just curious if there is a way to personalize your profile and get just the notifications you want. Any suggestions or ideas?

This is great feedback. We are definitely not done refining the on-site notifications. We want to create a feature that is helpful to members, allowing them to quickly find activity and items of interest. We will definitely take a look at the notifications you mentioned and figure out a more optimal solution.

Thank you, Mr. Crowely!

I had not seen anything that addressed the issue, so I'm glad I posted it as a discussion. :-)

I only pay attention to the notifications that come to my email. Those are comments, posts and new discussions started by friends on the site. I might glance at the other ones that are in my notifications, but I do the same as Type1Lou. I clear it daily so it doesn't build up too much, but I generally have about 150-200 notifications in there.

The only personalization you can do is what goes to your email. They have it to where they separated a lot of that stuff out. Before, I used to get an email for everytime someone liked a comment. My email box was always crammed. So they started the notifications on the site that allowed only the things I want to come to my email.

Thanks Gabby! That explains a lot. I think I'll do the same. I do, however, find that when someone likes or favorites a recipe, I tend to go look at it. :-D

It has it's point of interest. I check them out. The friending thing I don't really care about, but the favorited or likes I might check out.

Most days, I select "all" of the notifications at one fell swoop and delete them. I do like receiving notifications for new discussions and responses to any posts I've made…as for the others, I, too would like to turn them off.

Thanks Lou! Now I know I'm not the only one! LOL I do the same thing, but I scroll through and see what I want to read, open it in a new tab and go on from there…select all, open, delete, select all, open, delete, etc., :-D
