My eating plan (diet) iis very Atkins-like so I agree with the basic philosophy … low carb high protein and fat intake. the packaged meals and snacks I am not a big fan of as they are highly processed and they play the 'net carbs' game.

Although I don't formally follow the "Atkins Diet", I do follow a low carb diet and the Atkins Endulge Peanut Caramel Cluster bar is one of my favorites (I eat one for dessert at dinner). I have found the low-carb diet enables me to maintain my weight at around 120 lbs and helps me keep my BG's at reasonably good levels. My last A1c was 6.6. What works for me is limiting my carbs to no more than 120 total carb grams per day. You can follow a low-carb diet without purchasing the Atkins products. Just read any food labels for serving sizes and carbohydrate total and get a good guide for those unpackaged foods.

Howdy Neecie
I wish my GF were able to answer you. She's also a member here but is unable to post since she doesn't have an internet connection right now. (I understand she is working on correcting that)

So I guess I'll have to do. She has been on Atkins for about 9 mo to 1 yr and she has reduced or eliminated her insulin injections. Her fasting BG (blood glucose) levels are generally in the 100 to 110 range. She is also losing weight. She loves it.

Since it is a package program it does seem expensive to me. I have done much the same kind of meal plan (I dislike the word diet) where I eliminated my twice daily injections of NPH insulin, maintained my BG levels in the "normal" (80 to 130 mg/dl) rabge lost 65 lbs, and had an A1c of 5.5 for quite a while.
I had written it up on DC and I can send you the link upon your request.

But specifically to the topic as you posted, the Atkins Meal plan is definitely one way to go.

I pray success in whatever method of diabetes control you finally choose
