On Thursday, August 21, 2014, I will be having the Bariatric Sleeve Surgery. I was told to take off my insulin pump on Wednesday and if I still need to have outside insulin, the surgeon will give it to me in my intravenous. I am to bring nothing to the hospital besides my toothbrush and toothpaste and hairbrush and 2 forms of ID. I am nervous and excited and hopeful that I will lose weight, look svelte, and be rid of diabetic medications as well as meds for high cholesterol. Please say a prayer for me on Thursday. I will write when I return from the hospital. RebDee42

Hi Friends: Today is a week post surgery and I started "Stage 2". So for lunch I had a non-fat peach yogurt which took me almost an hour to eat and it tasted so good to me. I am also transitioning from Isoprue Protein Drink (which is essentially water with protein and does't taste so great) to Premier Protein Drink which is more like a shake and I love the vanilla (I started using it when I was taking the Bariatric classes and even used it instead of milk in my cereal). There4 is also chocolate flavor as well as strawberry which is scrumptious but not easily found. Anyway, I had visitors today who walked me which was fun for both me and my dogs since I can't take them as they pull on the leashes but my friends took the dogs and I just walked along, merrily I might add. More as things change. Weight still going down. Never thought I would say I actually enjoyed this surgery and the recovery period.

Hello everyone. I am 5 days post surgery and have already lost 9 lbs. I am lucky that I have had no pain but just some nausea occasionally. Of course I am only allowed to drink water, Isopure Protein Drink (the orange flavor is yucky but the apple melon is quite nice), vegetable broth, and sugar free jello. It took me one hour to eat one of those jello cups. Never thought I could eat so slowly but I must in order to avoid nausea. Luckily, I have never had dumping syndrome (vomiting)
I was told to put my insulin pump back on but it is causing too many lows (below 75) and so I have taken it off again. I have an appointment this morning at the Endocrinology Clinic to see my blood sugars and to either readjust my pump or to have me told that I don't need it either at all or at least not yet since I am not eating anything with sugar.
Thanks to all for their prayers. As a believer I truly feel that they helped me to be one of the easy ones (no real problems)..

that is great! I will say a prayer today and another one on Thursday, and pray that you won't be to nervous also. What is the sleeve surgery? I have not heard of that. I have friends who have had the gastric bypass surgeries, all of them did very well.

Look it up on Google under Gastric Sleeve Surgery. It is different from Roux En Y Surgery which is a longer process and did not suit me.

Howdy Dee
My prayer: "Please Lord, protect and defend Dee. Let Your holy angels surround her so that she has no difficulty. Please, Lord guide the hands of the surgeons and medical staff so that she has a good outcome for this surgery and that her recovery from the scalpel is quick and safe

In Jesus' name Amen!"

Thanks Jaybee. I am typing up a prayer for my surgeon to say before he begins cutting me. I think that I will add what you have said to my own prayer.

I had gallbladder surgery laparascopic fortunately, last year and I was so nervous, and my surgeon always prayed for everyone before surgery, and that was one reason why I wanted this doctor, plus he is just a great surgeon. he had the best bedside manner I have ever encountered and I was at peace once he did that.

I had my cholecystectomy (gall bladder surgery) along with a salpingo oophorectomy (ovary & tube) in the olden days of 1970 with a big scar that runs from left breast diagonally to my right side. Boy is that evr ugly. You are lucky that they learned to do it via laporoscopy.

yes I am. I wish it had alwys been done that way. I hate scars. the only only surgery I ever had was two c-sections, but those were exciting times and very different feel than the other. :-)

I realize that for the rest of my life, I will have to diet in order to keep weight off once I lose it but I am dedicated to doing that in order to look and feel better. Small bites and chew 30 times each mouthful to make it easier on my stomach. Walking, riding my recumbent bike, and water aerobics after surgery is healed. I even let my hair grow long. I plan to look younger than my 71 years. I'm excited to do it. Just need everyone's prayers.

You have a wonderful attitude not only about the surgery, but also about how you want to live your life and doing what it takes to get there. You are in our thoughts. ~Lynn @Glucerna

Thanks for your compliment. I try hard to keep myself UP and now I want to keep myself THIN (not thin exactly but thinner than I am now with my Diebetic belly that makes me look pregnant). I'll write when I get home and tell you all about it.
