I strongly urge everyone to have an endocrinologist as well as your primary when diabetic. This is how ive stayed functional. A primary always tries to do both but not as well ive tried in the past and was out of control. So please everyone for your sakes think about it.

I literally walked 3 miles today:). In pain now. But they say no pain no gain right?

Nikki, It depends on how bad the pain is and where the pain may be. A pain level of "10" in a joint would tell me that something is severely wrong and I should not continue. A level "5" in the muscles which have been worked would be tolerable and OK to continue.

Yet that is what "they" say. Not sure I agree totally with what "they" (whoever they are). I might agree with a little pain from exercise, however, too much pain tends to make us hesitate before doing it again and may even dissuade us from continuing.

BTW: I cannot see your pic clearly but is that you in a power wheelchair?

God's best to you
James

Nikki, That's good you're not in a wheelchair! I have been resisting going into a wchair even though my GF had been encouraging me to look into a power wc. She was thinking that would help with my painful neuropathy in my feet. I feel I'd rely on it too much and become too inactive.

I am so sorry to learn that you may need a wheelchair. Is the pain in your feet better when you aren't standing or walking? I admire you for not rushing into the wheelchair and will pray for easing of you pain.

Thx red hot!
Yes, still there but the pain lvi goes down to about 4 as opposed to 7 when standing. It has been like this for the past 5 + yrs.

I do use a powered shopping .cart when available at bigger stores.

Totally. I agree with you. I push through if need be. If you sit in a chair leg muscles will weaken not for me. Stubborn lady I am.

Congratulations! That is really great. You should be proud of yourself. I had just started arthritis meds about a month before I was diagnosed with diabetes. The pharmacist chased me down the aisle when I refilled them to let me know that I couldn't take them with the diabetic meds so I have been taking aspirin or advil for pain and inflammation. My cortisone shot wore off. I am a "good candidate for a knee replacement" according to the orthopedic doctor. Do you see a doctor for diabetes, one for arthritis, and a PCP? It is getting to the point that the knee is giving out and falling is becoming an issue so I guess its time to address it. Again, it is great the way you have taken control of everything. You are an inspiration.
