Novel Stem-Cell Therapy for a Type 1 Diabetes Cure Seeks FDA Approval for Clinical Trials

"Pending FDA approval of the applications, the early phase 1/2 clinical trial of VC-01 will enroll about 40 type 1 participants over a two-year period. The trial will primarily measure VC-01’s effect on C-peptide, a biomarker for insulin production. If all goes well, Viacyte hopes to bring this therapy to market by 2020. "

This is part of a new clinical trial that is slated to help find a (dare I say it) cure for type 1 diabetes. http://diatribe.org/issues/67/new-now-next/2 Exciting stuff!

Sounds like something much better than doing a pancreas transplant! I do hope it all come to fruition! There will be a lot of happy diabetics if this comes through. :-)

Hopefully this will be a safer approach than all these dangerous new prescription drugs they've been advertising.

Sounds promising. That would be great for T1s. Unfortunately there have been a lot of promising developments which have not even gotten this far, so it is hard for me to get terribly excited about it.

I pray it works without major complications.
