As a type 1, you also need to consider where you're giving your insulin. Are you on injections or the pump? Either way, if you are *always* giving your insulin in the same place (usually the stomach) then you can develop fatty deposits there. If you will rotate your injection sites (or infusion sites if using the pump) to more spots such as your thighs, your hips, your upper arm, and a wider area on your stomach, you can protect yourself from developing these fatty deposits.

Other than that, I think KD gave you great advice. Cardio plus strength training is really the key. And watch what you eat. Cut out any junk food and you should do great.

You will loose weight where your body wants to loose weight so you have to really just follow an all over, varied program. Try to do cardio and strength exercises together (not at the same time but circuits of say 3-5 minutes cardio, 2-3 minutes strength for 20-30 minutes) as well as eating right. When doing the exercises, don't do the same things to the same area each time. For instance on day 1 do strength on arms, day 2 do abs day 3 do legs. That way you work out your whole body fairly evenly and you give each section a chance to heal and grow between working it. An interesting approach is Jillian Michaels 30 day shred. You can pick up the DVD for about $9 on Amazon. The basic theory of it is to do circuit training at home. All you need is the DVD and something to use as weights, 2x3lbs is plenty to start with. You don't have to use actual weights, anything that is easy to hold and is the weight you want will work.
