Is anyone there experiencing "dawn phenomenon" where the sugar readings are low at bedtime but still wake up with high readings

The same has been happening to me. I put it down to the thyroid meds since it has really picked up since I started on them. Having a snack, or not, the night before makes no difference either way.

I was at 190 again this morning, my doc upped the metformin to 2000 a day on Monday, I'm working on week 5 now.

I've been hoping to see some change in the numbers but the lowest I've gone during the day is 135 and usually it just hovers around 165 to 185 all day.

and I gained 4 pounds in the past month too. I haven't felt this good or had this much energy in years but really thought I'd be starting to see some different numbers.

These are almost the identical numbers that my Wife has been getting lately. She just had a 317 after a fasting this AM of 160. She ran out of Metformin yesterday, don't know how that happened, but. We also changed her insulin/carbs and increased her lantus at night. But haven't had a good stretch of good numbers for a bit.

I think I'd feel better if I had some highs and lows so I could determine what I'm doing that is good vs bad and make an adjustment.

I can wake up and test at 190, and after 3 meals and snacks still be between 180 and 200 when I go to bed.

YES! All the time. It drives me nuts. My doc said it's because my bs drops too low while I'm sleeping, so my liver kicks in and pumps out the sugars because my body kind of panics. OK, so now how do we fix it?

this happens to me too…having a snack at bedtime doesnt seem to solve the prob cause my readings in the morning will even be much higher…but sometimes too I wake up in the middle of the night feeling hypo and my reading would be 40 !!!…I'm more afraid of having low blood sugar…it's frustrating !

the little snack befor bed has done well for me .just dont over do it becouse your bg would be high for that .just to keep you from going low in sleep. try it and let us know

I suffer with GERD (heartburn, etc.) besides Diabetes, so I cannot eat before bedtime. I am not supposed to eat within 3 hours of bedtime. So my morning bc is usually high. I just accept this. My dr. doesn't want me to take metformin before bed as I would be susceptible to low bc in the middle of the night. Since my A1C has been staying around 6.1 I feel I'm doing OK.

not to often with me ,but there are days where I 'll be around 95 to 110 BG and not eat after 7pm and wake up between175to 225.I sometimes think that my body is trying to eat it's own fat if I skip a meal or two,I do not think it's possible but it make me wonder about how or body works.

It is funny you talk about your body eating your onw fat. When I was gestational with baby 1 - I did not gain weight but eating healthy (diabetic diet). At one point after his birth I weighed 25 lbs. less then the day I got pregnant … something was eating all that fat :)

WELL I TAKE NOVOLIN, AN IF MY # IS DOWN I WILL TAKE 20 UNITS OF N AN IF THEY ARE HIGHER THEN I WILL TAKE AROUND 30 UNITS, AN THIS IS A 8 HOUR MED WHICH MEANS I CAN SNACK BEFORE BED TIME AN MY # WILL STILL BE UNDER 120 WHEN I GET UP, AN CHECK MY NUM. IN THE MORN…SO FAR MY NUMBERS ARE STAYING AROUND 100 TO 130 MOST OF THE TIME. HOPE THIS HELPS…

I've had that, and it's a drag! You eat something, because it's low, and bam when you wake up, it's sky high! I have gotten to the point where I just go ahead and bolus, just in case!
