On Dc I discovered Wheat & products have Gluten a protein which collects fat making you gain weight so i am shifting to rice. Please read and avoid wheat & by products

We'll, that's terrific! Would you say the walk is rigorous or more relaxing? I am. Wondering if I adopt the plan will I be able to do it right?

Great! Thanks! How long does your daily walk take, and how would you characterize your level of strenuous ness? This may work for me… Uh, dare I ask, ??? How old are you?

I am proud of you! I have a friend that was told to keep some sugar tabs for diabetics handy where ever he goes of bouts of low blood sugar. Check with your Dr. and see if he approves.

Great job, Ann. So glad for you, and hubby too, for the walking. It is nice to do so as a couple. Keep up the good work and God bless.

And now I'd like to share a little - I was last on this forum a couple of years ago, whining about my diabetes not being under control. The advice from virtually all members was to cut the carbs.

Simple, right? RIGHT…

But - I've been less than 100 grams per day (like around 60) since Feb 6th - the result is that I'm down 100 lbs since Sept. 2011, and down 65 pounds this year alone. Talk about life changing.

100 lbs ago, I took 150 units/day basal and the same (or more) in bolus - 300 units per day or more.

Today, I'm down to 10 basal morning and night.

Last week, when I had a day (Wednesday) when I took zero units of fast-acting for the first time since I was handed my insulin bottles over 9 years ago, I almost cried. I haven't used any since.

Losing the carbs (as part of a solution that included exercise already) was the missing piece of the puzzle - I've gone from believing that I, like my parents and siblings, was destined to die of this disease to believing that within the next month, I'll be free of insulin.

Talk about a miracle - thanks all

What kinds of things do you eat that are really satisfying (if any) and what meals to which do you look forward?

steveftw
steveftw 2014-08-08 08:51:16 -0500 Report

The simple answer is that I still enjoy eating - immensely.

One part of the longer answer is that what I'm eating now - vegetables, animal protein and tree nuts - is a diet that after a very short transition period (in some ways 3 days, in other ways a couple of weeks) that I find just as enjoyable as the "carb carb carb" days.

I learned from experience the meaning of the word "sobriety" when I dealt with other issues - 3 weeks into this change, I recognized that for the first time I my life (I'm 59), I have - seriously - food sobriety.

I could go on for pages - but that's about me.

WELCOME BACK!

that is FANTASTIC that you were able to get off some of your insulin injections and are looking forward to discontinuing them altogether! I have preached about the importance of what one puts in one's mouth for several years now. I learned it when I modified my meal plan to cut out most of the simple carbs.

Funny what one finds after an extended absence.

Congrats on the reduction. There's nothing like it.
