So, way before I got this app I had a doctor appointment and the doctor said if I put hand sanitizer before I prick my finger that that it would show my blood sugar wrong. Do y'all know if it's true?

I don't use any kind of alcohol because it will, over time, dry out my fingers and then testing hurts. I do what Joyce does and just wash my hands with warm water and soap. I also use a paper towel to dry off my hands so that if there is anything on the towel, it won't transfer back to my hand.

Hand sanitizer contains alcohol and alcohol will change the reading.

I wash my hands with unsented mild soap in warm water then test. It is best not to have any kind of fruity soap or fruity lotion on hands when testing. Even when they test me at the hospital the nurse wipes my finger with an alcohol wipe then wipes it off with a clean piece of gauze.

JJ, I tend to follow your way of doing things as well. Just because a study says it's OK doesn't mean it is the best way to do it! (i was just reporting what the study says)

James I found out that hand sanitizer changes the results after I tested using it then testing without it. I agree just because a study says to do something does not mean it is the best thing to do.

it seems your Dr is mistaken. Check out the results of a study on this here ~ http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3...
