Around the 1st of Nov. last year, I was spent 3 days in ICU. My symptoms were excessive thirst, sever yeast infection, blurred vision, sweating, going to bathroom constantly, lost 14lbs, feeling faint, fruity smell, and I felt shaky. I tested + for ketones .My bs was over 350 and a1c was over 13. I had seen the doctor in Sept. for uti. which I had but none of the other symptoms above. She ran urine and blood test. Everything was normal at that time. Oh by the way I am 63 years old. They said I had type 1 diabetes. I have been doing a lot of reading up on type 1. I have also read about LADA/1.5. I have never had high bs in my life until my diagnosis in Nov. My question to you is do I have type 1 or LADA/1.5? I was put on insulin immediately and I use a pump.

I was diagnosed at age 44 with Type 1. I had a BS at the time of 1100. Yeah, it's a miracle I'm still alive! I've had nurses tell me that I had LADA or even Type 2 because I was diagnosed at such a late age. However, I go by what my endo says. And he says I have Type 1, so, if I were you, I would go by what he/she says.

Howdy NYPD

Your Dr is the person who Dx'd you. You have a insulin pump and are pumping insulin into your bloodstream.

I am T2 but have spent a lot of time here on DC and have interacted with some interesting 1.5s. (use the search function on DC and type in 1.5. You'll get a lot of hits) Often T1.5 will present itself to the Dr as T2, but will eventually progress to where the oral diabetes meds are not working to control the diabetes and the patient is put on insulin.

Since you already are using a pump for insulin delivery I think it would be safe to say that you are T1.

Is there anything, besides reading about it, which would indicate you might be T1.5?

God's best to you
