So I been very sick the past couple of months. My doctor told me I had acid reflux and I started taking zantac. Last week until now I been sick almost every night. Stomach, bowels, bad heartburn…everything. I go to the doctor and he sends me for an ultrasound of my abdomen. He calls today and tells me my liver and spleen are enlarged and I have to go see a hematologist. Of course I freaked out and got on Google. I saw a few post that linked this to diabetes/metformin.

Has anyone had this problem?

-scared to death.

I also have an enlarged liver and spleen. I have ciroshis of the liver due to a fatty liver (I never drank alcohol ). I had so many tests done that I couldn't believe it.
For several months I took Metformin but the Drs don't believe that it caused my liver problems.
I'm not on Metformin any longer but that was because it didn't help me .
Don't be scared. Get the tests done. It's better to know then not know.

God bless you,
Calayx

Howdy Lelebell

According to Mayo clinic: "Doctors aren't sure what causes nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. The wide range of diseases and conditions linked to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is so diverse that it's difficult to pinpoint any one cause." ~ http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions...

And rather than Met being the cause of NAFLD it may even be beneficial. See ~ http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19811343

Praying you can solve this problem
James
