I have been a t2 for 16 years. Not once in that time did I ever feel I was in control of my medical care. I met withe my CDE and nutritionist this week…AND. finally success! I will start lantus next week not because my numbers are bad, but because all the oral meds over the years have rotten my stomach out…I told them I wasn't going to spend my life in the bathroom…we had to do something different. Here's a hint ****if your Dr. Isn't listening to you find another advocate. My CDE has known me since day one she listened and went to the doc armed with my info and the knowledge of diabetes and talked to the Dr. Doc usually don't get a lot of training in "d'', so they depend on the other experts for info. So now I am seeking support from others who use lantus, give me some of your experiences and knowledge, please.

Thanks for all your comments. Just to clarify, the control I am speaking of is not in my numbers…but in my medical care as a whole. I am not one who will take what the docs tell me and say "yes, sir, or mam". I do my homework, probably too much so, and take time to consider and ask questions. For two years I have wanted to start a more aggressive plan to get my number down, weight down (even though I have lost 100 lbs —- 30 to go), battling with the nutritionist and CDE and docs. So that suddenly I had given them reason enough to make the Lantus decision is a battle won. You have to do your own advocating, your own homework, you have to stand up for your health. At the end of the day, they go home, and you are left with a meter and a pancreas that doesn't work completely 100%.

It's great to hear that working with a CDE and nutritionist has given you the help and support you need to feel confident about managing diabetes. ~Lynn @Glucerna

Congratulations not only on the improvement with control but for taking charge and getting your team to work WITH you! I have no experience with medications but continue to work with your team to find what's right for YOU… and you'll maintain the control.

There are no one size fits all treatments. You are unique… and that, my friend, is a GOOD thing!

Thank you for posting and for reaching out with questions to educate yourself and for sharing your experiences to educate us!!!
