Ok I love love love ice cream. But it really makes my blood sugar spike so I have been trying some alternatives lately to see if I can find something that tastes good enough to satisfy my ice cream cravings but that doesn't spike my blood sugar. I have tried the no sugar added ice creams, frozen yogurt, and sugar free stuff. Some of them are ok but I was wondering if anyone has found some ice cream that they love that is also low in carbs/sugar?

The egg has 76% of cholesterol not possibly counting the sugar content? Read the label?? :(

jayabee52 2014-07-29 14:59:13 -0500 Report

There IS no sugar content and ONLY 1 g of carb! (please research things before you post stuff like this) plus: "Most of the cholesterol in our body (about 80%) is produced in the liver. Only about 20% is affected by what we eat. If you eat more cholesterol than you need, your body accommodates by producing less." see ~ http://eggs.ab.ca/about-eggs/health-benefits Actually, IMHO it is an EGGSELENT food! (pun intended) You can see the nutritional info for the egg in the link I just posted in this reply. Take a look!

Nothing can compare with that so try no to and when you do it enjoy it so much and keep trying not to taste again until you place the flavor in your mind that could work better
I know it's hard to get used to your new life but is your life and you have to control it and not let diabetes control it. Have a great time

Fun fact… sugar free ice cream is thousandfold healthier than cake

haoleboy 2014-07-28 12:35:42 -0500 Report

sugar free? is there such a thing?
the "no sugar added" and "carb smart" ice creams contain sucralose and various sugar alcohols
… so healthier than cake???

artqween 2014-07-28 12:40:11 -0500 Report

sacralose is a chemical type sugar,.. unlike Truvia which comes from a plant.

haoleboy 2014-07-28 13:31:16 -0500 Report

technically … sugar is a chemical sweetener too
C12 H22 O11
Truvia's main ingredient is erythritol, a sugar alcohol, aka "a chemical type sugar". it only contains a very small amount of the Stevia plant, in the form of "rebiana". and "natural flavors" what ever those might be.

Now were talking.. consider sugar free ice cream, fat free ice cream, ice milk consider getting the lowest amount of sugared ice milk/sugar free ice cream in the market plez? And less toppings the better? According to Dr. Oz.. Which I do agree 1000000% btw. and possibly use a coffee cup instead of a bowl hey JT wave wave… ur blood pressure/sugar reading may not spike up??? Happy deserting…

jayabee52 2014-07-28 03:44:46 -0500 Report

Regarding Oz: even a broken clock is right twice a day. The coffee cup is a good idea. some of the rest of Oz's pronouncements are less than credible.

I often stay away from ice cream. But when I do eat it, I often by Breyers. Be careful with this brand though, some flavors have a decent amount of artificial ingredients.

My sister purchased a ice cream maker for me at Walmart because I also have this weakness for ice cream. So far so good. I am in control of the ingredients and I must tell you …I am loving it!

I use to eat ice cream too, however it nailed me big time..i have now switched to Italian ices or I make my own frozen sorbets at home and them roll a scoop into a dish or cone. I can control the sweetness. Still will spike the BS if I eat too much ..like any fresh fruit

Fresh & Easy has an absolutely wonderful sugar free low fat Vanilla Bean. I actually like it better than the fatty & sugary ones.

artqween 2014-07-23 15:08:09 -0500 Report

Consider ice milk? Sherbet?? They taste great!! :). Possibly consider smaller portion for your ice cream reward.. coffee cup size and add ur fav. cut up fruit: what is recommended to u? There are some fruit that the sugar is very low?

The Breyers Carb Smart Chocolate ice cream is very good. It has 13g carbs and 110 calories per 1/2 cup serving. It also has 4g fiber.

I occasionally buy a brand of ice cream called Halo Top Creamery. I find it at a store called Sprouts. I don't know if you have that store in your area. Here is a link you can use to try to find it. It's expensive but I think it tastes very good and is low carb/sugar.

Getting used to low sugar/low carb diet isn't easy. The sugar/carbs got us where we are now probably.
I use a Bullet to make icy drinks with fresh fruit & veggies and the combinations are endless to make cold or icy drinks & smoothies that are refreshing as well as great snacks.

Out here in ND we have Schwaans foods. They have a Carb Comfort Ice Cream I find does not spike my sugar, but keeps it up overnight as well and satisfies my cravings for sweet.

haoleboy 2014-07-22 16:52:16 -0500 Report

being an ice cream junkie I very, very seldom eat it any more … but … if and when I do I stick with the real deal full fat variety as I find that it spikes me much less than the reduced/no fat or sugar varieties.

I simple add chopped walnuts and /or sliced almonds to my ice cream. I take some with me in my purse, so when I am out with a group of seniors I can have ice cream while the others are having their pie. I fit in and is better than staying home alone. You can also take a square of dark chocolate and have it shaved to add to ice cream.

GabbyPA 2014-07-22 16:35:56 -0500 Report

I do a 1/2 cup of Bluebell Homemade Vanilla with chopped walnuts and a dash of cinnamon. Usually does okay for me because there is enough fat in the ice cream.

I don't like the texture, aftertastes or even the smell of the low carb, sugar free, no sugar added stuff. They are too fake. I like the real stuff.

My go-to ice cream is Breyer's CarbSmart Vanilla. It's 14 grams of carb per 1/2 cup serving. I like to swirl in some all-natural peanut butter and some roasted sunflower seeds (adding a bit more carbs)…oh so satisfying!
