3 months ago I went to my doctor with an A1C of 9.3. My doctor put me on Metformin 2000 mgs in 2 divided doses. My A1C today was 7.9 He says today he wants me to take 4 mgs of Amaryl. Is this two high of a dosing to begin, and do I need to readjust the Metformin dosing?

If your doctor says the dosage is right, then it is. Oral medications work differently than many insulins, so the doctor would have figured out what you need before he prescribed it.

You should never adjust your own meds without the doctor saying it is ok.

I also take Amaryl or rather the generic version of it. I have had good results with it and I have no side effects with it. I get mine at K-mart and pay 15.00 for three months.

First, hiya…First, I don't know much about that medication though IF your d octor did not tell you to stop your Metformin you should not stop it. Also, please just call their office if you have any questions like that. Good luck hun! Sheila
