I think I learned about this site from WebMD last year sometime I have enjoyed the daily discussions and articles. Yes, there are medical people involved in the web site. I am one of them although I am not a doctor I am a nurse-practitioner who just happens to have type 1 diabetes. I really like the support I receive here, I feel we are all in this together and when someone has a bad day everyone rallies around them. I gather you don't have diabetes, you are just on this site to examine the web site itself.

Probably the most helpful advice I have received so far was that it was not my fault that I got this disease, but that now that I have it I need to take care of myself in order to prevent the serious complications.

When and how did you learn about this site ?
About a year or so ago.

How has it changed your life ?
I'm a more informed diabetic — and I've connected with other diabetics.

Have you learned something really important through this site ? If you did so what was it ?
I've gotten some helpful advise that has improved my control of my diabetes. I've also seen the positive and negative views that diabetics have of their disease. It helps me choose the positive — its just easier to be happy that way.

Can you give some information about the useful ways of this site ?
The Product Reviews can be helpful and of course the discussion boards. Its easy enough to get peoples answers to your questions in a quick fashion.

Have there been any changes with your feelings about the disease since you become a member of the site ?
Not really, though I recognize more and more how individual this disease is. Everyone has different experiences with it. I've always felt pretty positive about my life as a diabetic — that hasn't changed by coming here. I just feel its something that needs to be shared more.

What was the most helful advice that you received through the site ?
Being on an insulin pump, someone directed me to start taking my bolus 15-20 minutes prior to eating. Its helped improve my control.

Have you ever suggested this site to anyone ?
I have.

Have there been any negative impacts of the site ?
No, I'm not emotionally invested enough to let it impact me in a negative way.

How are the relationships of the members of the site ? Can you create a sincere atmosphere here ?
You can if you choose to. I've been part of social network sites before and have chosen to keep myself somewhat adrift from major relationships. Its too hard to maintain and the people in my every day life deserve my attention more.

Are there any doctors in the site as moderators ?
I don't know, and don't really care.

Do you advice using social networking sites to people ?
You can be as involved or uninvolved as you want to and have great experiences either way. Remember though, the people you meet here are able to say anything — true or not. Use your head, and trust what seems trustworthy.
