I know my last article I posted about artificial sweeteners really stirred up some controversy. But I still have yet to change my mind and still really care about everyone's health! I love love love this article and I really would love to share it with you guys!

I really hate artificial sweeteners in general. In my experience with living with Diabetes for the last three years I have discovered that they've done nothing but kill my hopes of being in control. Ever since I've stopped using them, I've had less headaches, sugar cravings, and my blood sugars balanced out dramatically (a1c went from 8.5 to 5.5 since). I even feel happier and way more active since quitting all of them! I'm now the crazy woman you see checking every food label in the store to make sure I've cut it all out. It's hiding in almost everything, even things that are not diet.

I used to post a lot from Dr. Mercola, but so many of our members do it now, I have stopped. Kudos to you. I know many see his as a quack, but there is a lot of good information he does share. I have never bought a product from him, but I like his articles, this one is good.

Before my diagnosis, we used to purchase an average of 4 cases of soda every couple of weeks. When I was first diagnosed, That actually increased. I felt sick all the time and had no idea it was the aspartame. Once I started researching it, I cut it out and it was a HUGE difference. I still drink one on occasion, but we no longer keep soda in the house. It's an outside treat.

You are right about it being in things that are not even diet. It's all part of the sugar addiction that food companies want us to continue in. The sweeter the taste, the "happier" our brains are.

Thank you! I completely agree with you. I actually really enjoy reading his articles because even if people view his as a crazy, but there are several scientific facts backing him.

People poo-poo things that are outside the box. By nature, we like things to stay the same. He offers many great ideas. I don't agree with everything he puts out, but he does a lot of good things for exposing things we all kind of know deep down that something is wrong.

This is true, and every person has that built in. We want to do what is good or right, but the fear of not pleasing or doing right will often push us into a desired direction. Government, religion, medicine, parenting...all of these things use argumentum in terrorem. Thank you for the vocabulary lesson.

are there any good drink mixes? i have tried several and after a while i get an aftertaste or a plastic taste and nausea

Some gatorade mixes. Nothing sugar free or anything that has no carbs, except water of course will help too much. Almost everything I've seen has sucralose (aka Splenda) in it and it makes my stomach hurt so bad.

I use Crystal light in BPA free containers. I never get an after taste or plastic taste or nausea. Change the containers you use to make the drink. Containers with BPA will cause the problems you mention. You can also make infused water with fruits. There are all kinds of recipes for those on the internet.

The only things I drink are water, decaf tea, water with fresh lemon or lime in it and an occasional soda. I don't drink any of the bottled flavored stuff or any of the drink mixes like crystal lite or mio. Just what I can make myself.
