Update! Sorry I have not updated anyone on this. They did indeed test me out and it was Strep Group B…Never did I think I could catch Strep in my hind end but Okay! lol Anyhow, it was not MRSA, I was VERY worried of that as well. But the infection is GONE! YaY! I still have the wounds BUT they are healing, slowly cuz yanno us diabetics we do heal slowly. Today, Ty was changing my bandages and what he was unsure of what white dots he notices the other day…its skin..lol I am growing it back thank goodness! Meanwhile he's ripping it off as the tape pulls OUCH! I go back to the Wound Clinic and I will find out if for certain its skin and all is still going well. I will update yas all then. Thank you all very much for your concern, help, advice, support, etc *hugs* Love yassssssss Sheila

Hello, I know you are in pain but I must relay to u a bit of humor. I broke my back and ribs in a fall 3 years ago in July. After 5 weeks in intensive care and the hospital I went to therapy in another hospital. I kept smelling something like a dead cat. Well they immediately sent for the psychatrist. After a nice chat I was declared sane. But the smell persisted. In the hospital I had a huge bedsore on my butt which was two inches deep. After many weeks at home I was sent to a surgeon. Who cleaned the wound out and put some strong ointment in the wound. AS i related to the surgeon what had happened he laughed and laughed. The bed sore was eating and hole in my butt and the smell was the dead skin. So even in the hospital they could not figure it out. But because of this I met the chaplin a wonderful lady who let me cry with her. It was at least 6 months before I could stop crying. Every little thing made me cry. Walking side by side with death really tires u out. SO yes take care of it because it can kill u. I am a diabetic also and we have to be so careful not to let things get away from us. Each time when we think we need to consult a dr we should because we are at risk. You no longer are a healthy person u are a diabetic and being a hero can make u a dead hero real fast. I send my love and best wishes to you. Hang in there and do ur best that is what all of us diabetics are doing each day.
Mr.Dana Lee Kimball

You really need to see the doctor asap we as diabetics are highly suspetable to MRSA you do not want this, you can pass it to others and if it hits your blood stream it can kill you.
I thought I had a boil on my leg it was MRSA see your doctor.
Ask your doctor to culture for MRSA most doctors do not reconize it, you will be given medicine to put in your nose thats were the culture lives, and med for the sores, you ll need to wash everything you have contact with.
This went around my hubbys job site he brought home to me.

Hi Sheila,

How is everything going? Did the Doctor find out yet what's going on with you yet? Sorry I haven't gottem back to you sooner, but I had some medical problems myself that had to be taken care of and I can finally come back on line. It was awful hard for ne to stay awake when I got on the computer. That's all I will say for now because I am concerned about you and I said enough about myself. Let me know what is going to happen o.k.

Been offline so I didn't see your post until today. Hope you are feeling better. Went through something similar a couple of years ago and it took FOREVER to heal. I had an infection in my fat glands…lol lot of fat on my bum. I ended up going in for IV antibiotics. Now I have these funny little indents. Ex called them my "extra dimples" maybe you can see why he's my ex..lol. Worst part was the no shower part. I got these bath wipes from the med supply place. You put them in the microwave to warm and they are pre-soap with an anti-bacterial soap type stuff. They also had some special bandages that seemed to stay on better. They were clear with an adhesive edge and you just put them over the bandage from the Wound Center. Can't remember the name…I'll check into it for you. Good luck and hope the pain meds are helping. Best of wishes to you and Ty.

Sheila did he call them fistula's? If that is the case, YES they are very painful & I can sympathize with you. I didn't go see my doctor for a very long time & I worked in a hospital, I suffered every day & at work it was unbearable. Finally I went to my doctor (couldn't stand it any longer) & I saw him nearly every day at work. When I went I think he would have liked to slap me up for being so stupid. I had them removed in his office, BUT they kept coming back, & I ended up having surgery to remove all the tenticles. They can come back if sugars get too high again. Please let me know if this is what they are. Take care. Luanne

Splender 2009-04-11 16:09:33 -0500 Report

Thank you for letting us know about these fistula's. I never heard of them before, now I can keep a look out for them. My sugars are on the high side and have been for a long time. They have come down some but they are not under control. Thanks again!!!

lipsie 2009-04-11 16:23:06 -0500 Report

Yanno, I wanna say yes that is what he called them. Ulgh, I am in pain! Ty says the one side is worse now…but I don't have them bandaged … they did call late Friday and said I must bandage them somehow, but we don't get paid until Monday now…we have a little for laundry is all, and we really need some clean clothes…but even still the bandages it'll take for this..and my size it'll cost a pretty penny to find enough and so on. So, we figured waiting until Monday, after a different md appt I have and going downtown and just buying a whole lota stuff for this. *sigh* They're is a pharmacy our way (we walk or bus really) he could walk to and check on but its high price so I dunno.
What kind of surgery was it? cause these are holes, like not lumps!! But I did think I heard him say something about hair foliciles…maybe? SHeila I go Wed and will find out details for sure!

delicatemind 2009-04-22 11:08:56 -0500 Report

Sorry, I just found your discussion blog again. If they are not getting any better, and/or keep coming back, I would suggest you see a surgeon. If indeed what u have are fistula's they need to be surgicaly removed. It was a same day surgery & I was totally out. Look up fistula on the internet, they have what my doctor called was feelers that spread out, that's why the surgery to get all the feelers (tenticles) After the surgery & healing process no more pain. Must keep those blood sugars controlled. It's a wonder what all lurks inside our bodies. I hope this helps. Take Care, Luanne

lipsie 2009-04-24 15:31:18 -0500 Report

Thanks LuAnne but its Group B Strep they say now…I dunno…is that the same??? It is spreading too I think. Thanks! Sheila

delicatemind 2009-04-30 09:55:44 -0500 Report

Did you have a baby recently? I looked up Group B Strep & it's a bacteria from pregnancy mostly. It can be caused by other chronic medical, but it states mostly from pregnancy & the babies can be born with it too. Not sure what it is you have. If you are not getting any satisfaction from your primary doctor, maybe it's time to see a specialist, because you don't want to get sepsis (poison) in your body. Please look this up - Group B Strep on the internet, there were people who wrote in about it on the site. Take Care, Luanne

I an so glad you had your sores taken care of. They do sound awful painful. You'll feel better once the results come back—I know because I had to have a biopsy done on the sores I had on my stomach where I injected my Byetta every time. I was so relieved when the results came in it's unreal. Tell Ty I said thanks for taking such GOOD CARE of you during this time. He's really a life saver I'm sure. Keep us posted. A GREAT BIG HUG IS DISERVED————————HEREOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

The sample they took today was to really figure out where/what it was about though, I am kind of nervous about that…but yeah the one is MUCH bigger than a mans' or big hands' thumb..to fit..ulgh

lipsie 2009-04-09 22:08:34 -0500 Report

Thank you all once again, and yeah…I will have to be more careful about my information from doctors, etc. I was just so nervous…I get that way all the time at appts. That's why I always liked taking someone w/ me. Ty went but the name was a hard one to pronouce I think. BUT, I have a problem, of course…my darn bandages already riped off. *sigh* SO, I will call in the am. but I doubt we will get anywhere with their bandage. The spot is too difficult of a place to keep em' there. I dunno, weee'll see. Thanks. Sheila

lipsie 2009-04-09 12:54:24 -0500 Report

Okies, went to my appt, they are infected, so they numbed them…swabed them to check for something, don't remember what they said there…but took photos, I saw them…EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!! Ulgh, the one IS like omg huge…Ty was right but they said, Ty has been taking VERY good care of me/them…they were looking pretty clean per say…he has been holding me as I ball my eyes out…to sleep away with this pain. They said being infected may be why they are SO painful so after 2-3 days on this antibotic…we shall see. I go back next week on Wed. Oh, they bandaged them of course, no showers..ulgh, unless I can cover the bandages, but really their area, yeah right..lol SO, I have to work around that situation yanno how that'll go..blah. This Wound Center was VERY nice, and professional…Ty was a HUGE part of it, cuz he'll be caring for the areas eventually. Oh, and the Dr. Kinda cute, lol…Ty don't think so though. Wait he called this something started with a F…Ty just reminded me…I was sooooo nervous and like not really there. Anyone know what he may mean? Sheila

Take a notebook to future appts so you can write things down while you're there so you have a reference when you get home. I do it all the time. Just a little pocket notebook in my purse.

I would not wait either if at all possible. But, if you just cannot get in anywhere I was wondering if you tried something like a diaper rash cream on the affected area, they don't have harmful chemicals in them and it may give you some relief until you can get in somewhere to be seen, but your best option is to get to a doctor as soon as possible.

Splender 2009-04-06 11:15:02 -0500 Report

Hi Robin,

I agree with you 100 percent. Shiela please see your doctor as soon as you can. I just don't want anything serious to come of these holes. Take Care.

Sheila, I agree with everybody! Don't wait, get to the doctor. I'll be thinking about you girl! Hugs, Angie

kdroberts 2009-04-06 06:56:31 -0500 Report

No, you shouldn't wait. Stuff like that can be very serious for a diabetic, especially if your blood sugars are not well controlled. It's much better to get them seen to ASAP and it be nothing rather than wait a few days and maybe have a very serious problem.

Splender 2009-04-06 09:38:01 -0500 Report

Hi Shiela,

I agree with kdroberts—-You should see a doctor right away. I had sores all over my abdomen for over a year only because I couldn't get an appointment with a dermatologist for that long. My regular md could not figure it out. I finally got seen and had to have a biopsy done about 6 months later. So you see how long you may have to wait to get it taken care of. Yes they finally found out that I was allergic to a chemical in Byetta—everytime I took a shot I would get a sore in the same place that would not go away for a very long time. By that time I had 2-5 more to replace that one. So please don't wait—-make an appointment ASAP so you don't have to be in agony for much longer. The main reason I had to wait so long was because I was seeing a dermatologist at a V.A. Hospital.
TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!!!!! We all care about you.
