Portion control is tough for most of us Rolly. Portion control is partially how one controls carbs also.

One of the ways I control carbs is to avoid eating the "simple carbohydrates" (like breads) and focus on "complex carbohydrates" like veggies which have some nutritional values in them. I also eat a lot of protein which helps me avoid loading up on carbs as if my tummy is full of protein, there is no room for carbs.

Howdy Rolly
Do you have your Bipolar under control? If you do not, really anything that you try to do for your diabetes may not be effective. If your bipolar is in control, then start learning how to count your carb intake and lower it as as much as practical.
You will of course need to practice portuon control and eat more protein and veggies. Depending on what you are using as an antiglycemic agent (pills or injectables like insulin) will determine how quickly your Blood Glucose (BG) numbers will come down

It is doable.

Praying for you

Rolly, also I guess you have genetic protection coz you are running on high numbers for almost 2 decades without any issues. I read somewhere that after 6 years of uncontrolled dm, one generally fave issues. Just believe that you have genetic protection and try to be happy. BUT AT ANY COST YOU SHOULDNT STOP TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF! do it regularly as if you dont have genetic protection!

Hi rolly, i just had it for an year. But i read in dr.bernsteins book that it is never late to control. He also had lot of complications but he kinda reversed them through strict control. My prayers are with you. You will be fine. First get into the right BMI. And dont adjust insulin for more food. Do carb counting. Not sure how I would help you with depression because even I experience the same!
