I just got these tips in a diabetes newsletter:

When you have diabetes, it may seem like you’re always hearing about what not to eat. Here’s some better news: tasty snack and dinner options that help you keep your carbs under control.
Eating the right amount of carbs spread out over the day helps keep glucose levels closer to normal. Along with getting regular exercise and taking medication as prescribed, it helps manage diabetes.

Diabetes-Friendly Snacks

These wholesome snacks are low enough in carbs to fit almost any meal plan. Even better, children love them!

Less than 5 grams of carbs
• ¼ cup fresh blueberries
• 1 cup light popcorn
• 1 hard-boiled egg
• 2 tablespoons pumpkin seeds
• 3 celery sticks with 1 tablespoon peanut butter
• 5 baby carrots
• 15 almonds
10 to 20 grams of carbs
• ¼ cup dried fruit and nut mix
• ½ turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread (2oz. turkey on 1 slice of bread with mustard)
• 1 cup raw veggies with 1/3 cup hummus
• 1 small apple or orange
• 5 whole-grain crackers and 1 piece of string cheese

I hope this helps you guys with finding healthy snacks.

my favorite "diabetic friendly" snack are Chicharonnes (Pork Rinds) doused in Frank's Red Hot
a 1 ounce serving has ZERO carbs and 9 grams of protein!
(if you are on a sodium restricted diet you might want to pass on these)

I love popcorn but salt and other fixings will not stick to air popped popcorn. I have my own pressure bottle that works like Pam but I use my own olive oil. A light spray over the popcorn bowl and then a light sprinkle's of no calorie sweetener or what ever seasoning strikes my fancy that day works well for me.

light popcorn?

I believe that is air popped sans butter.

makes sense … if you are avoiding yummy butter

I use a lot of cocnut oil … but then I use a lot of butter also.
Popcorn is a food I avoid … I am a known popcorn addict and have NO self control when it comes to popcorn (and ice cream as well)

That would be me with ice cream so I just don't have it around. Popcorn I will have one in a great while as a treat.

I do not deny myself things simply because I have diabetes. I am not the only person in my house so why should I not have ice cream in the house. One scoop of ice cream is not going to kill me nor raise my blood sugar. I use to eat popcorn all the time. I have not had any since March.

I think people spend way too much time focused of what they can't have than what they can have in moderation. Just because I have ice cream, cookies, candy and cake in my house does not mean that I am going to always eat it any more than it means I am going to pig out on it. I have it because when I do want to have some, I don't have to run to the store and it is here for visitors.

The same is true if I go to a party or buffet just because the food is there to eat doesn't mean I am going to eat it. I prefer to enjoy life's little pleasures.

I eat ice cream almost everyday during the summer. I eat no sugar added but I make sure my numbers are good cause sometimes I want to drizzle chocolate sauce on it.

Thanks for sharing these ideas. it seems like the key, as is true so often, lies in the portion of the snack as well as the type of food. ~Lynn @Glucerna

So, you mix all that together in a bowl, and it's less than 5 grams of carbs?
Seriously, those are some healthy tasty snacks! When are you going to prepare a few for me?

How clumsy of me! You know I'd get you anything you like! Well maybe except for one thing, an ice cream cone!!! If I see you with one, I'll grab it, duck, and run like greased lightening!!!
