My wife remembers measuring my fastin bg on 2010 end. It was normal it seems. But whether one could get fully blown diabetes in just 1 year?

I never had any blood work done until the one that stated I had diabetes.

The A1C covers a three month period. So you know you had it 3 months before the blood test. You probably had it longer than that. Now that you have it, what are you going to do to manage it?

Hard to say. I was diagnosed Type 1 at age 27 and had experienced weight loss (13 lbs going from 120 lbs to 107 lbs), extreme thirst and frequent urination for 2 weeks prior to my diagnosis. So I think, in my case, it came on suddenly and within 2 weeks of my diagnosis which was back in 1976. As a Type 2, your symptoms may have been much milder and coming on more gradually. When was the last time blood work was done before the one diagnosing your diabetes?…that might give you a clue to your answer. The Hba1c covers a time frame of the last 3 months so, you've had diabetes at least 3 months and most likely longer.
