Well, went to my Orthopedic md and he wants me to have the weight surgery, my pain specialist does, and I think my family md also mentioned back a ways…so this one is putting in a request for it. I had staples back 99, it was preformed different, now its MUCH better…I had lost but gained it ALL back. I dunno for sure my ol' md will do it again, or do I? I mean with all my medical problems exercise is becoming almost impossible, I am told NOT to do anything, stay off my knee totally and let Ty take care of me, and always use my cane (he ordered). Any thoughts, idea, etc.?

roggerrnogger. So happy for you! There are so many benifits from weight loss I have lost count. I was told I would need kne surgery about 3 years ago, then got diabetes and lost 55 lbs. What a load off! Knees rarely have pain now.

I know whereof you speak; I am 5' tall and at my highest I weighed 260 #. I have become really interested in the new procedure for the gastric sleeve. They say that now after they staple off a 6 to 8 oz pouch, they remove the excess tissue instead of leaving it there. Their reasoning is that that tissue continues to release hormones-including grehlin, the hunger hormone. If they remove the tissue the theory is that the patient won't suffer constant hunger pangs. I'm going tohave a long talk with my md. I have so many health problems I think I could benefit greatly.

Sheila I am probably going to have it done myself. I have been doing research on it for a long time. there is a newer procedure not gastric bypass or lap band it is called gasrtic sleeve. There is so much I can tell you but its hard on here. If u would like to get me privatley that would be fine I could explain more to u. My /drs. have the highest rating in the US so that makes me feel better about it also. I also have very limited mobility due to bad car accident so my weight is awful the drs feel the risk of surgery is better then the way my health is now. And it is NOT the easy way out I know many people think that way. And their is no magic bullet with any of the surgeries weight can be gained back if u dont follow the rules. Feel free to get in touch with me.

What a delema, I understand your pain in the issue. My MD qite a whle back, instead of telling me to diet and exercise suggested a surgery. I wanted a quick fix, something that would not take the determination that diet and exercise did (mostly because I was just lazy)
Anyway, because my insurance would not cover it (I had insurance back then) I could not persue it.

I recently posted a discussion called "Gastric bypass reversal" here and if you look that up, you will find the story of a dear friend of mine who had a battle for her life going on because of a complication from her successful sugrgery 6 years earlier.

It is tricky, and it worked for my friend very well, but now she has been weak and recovering since October of last year. I don't say it to scare you, as you have had an experience with it before. Just to caution you that you need to make sure if you do it, that your insurance will cover ANY complications no matter how long AFTER the surgery.

Also, make sure that you are comfortable with the doctor who does the surgery. My friend had moved to a different state, and her new doctor was nothing short of a jerk. She ended up flying back to her old doctor and he took care of her immediately. So look into that as well.
