Hello Janice;
It has been a while, but my neurologist rxed the med fpr stroke pain He had to keep upping the dosage because it gave me little if any relief. He rxed oxcarbazepine, some relief, but I'm out of meds & insurance. Both caused upset stomach ache and migraines. Depression increased.

I have also been on it years back. I was at a high level at one point 3600mg from a ms specialist actually. And it worked fabulous for quite a few years. Finally I just needed something else, and boy was I glad I did cuz I take what they also spoke of… Lyrica at high dose and its cosidered my wonder drug. I REALLY feel this way. Also if you have arthritis my other wonder drug is Celebrex…I have two .. and I take 30 medications. I really wish her well. And like she said..always come on and off slowly…watch what you do at fist, etc. Good luck! Sheila

Gabapentin is the generic form of Neurontin a drug similar to Lyrica in that it controls the pain of diabetic neuropathy, postherpetic neuropathy, and fibromyalgia. They are drugs whose major use is in epilepsy and whose minor use is in the above problems. She should start it slowly and stop it slowly. It can also make her sleepy or dizzy so she should watch it while operating machinery—such as autos. Also, it is important to know that these drugs can increase suicidal thoughts. I was also prescribed this med and I found that if I can keep my blood sugars under control my pain is also under control and I don't need it as much any more.

You can also go to and look up this particular medication, there is also a place there to submit the names of all of your medications along with this one and see if there are side effects or interactions that could be harmful. As as always said there are cheaper forms that may work just as well if not better. I've seen more than once someone comment that a generic form seemed to be better than a name brand.

Here's my two cents worth, but to begin with it's gonna cost if your not insured. My Wife has been taking it for many years, and since losing med coverage she has had to cut back her prescribed amount to save on costs. The other brighter side is that her Neuropothy is well controlled (as much is) by good eating. The same Company that makes the Brand name also makes Lyrica, a possible replacement for her Gabapentin.

Of course it goes without saying please take all this as genuine, but you MUST CONSULT YOUR PRO. team any any med issues!

Good luck!
