Today's Gift

I was watching a PBS pledge break with Dr. Nancy Snydernan and something she said really struck a note with me. She had been in her garden with her soon when a black butterfly alighted on a yellow flower and her son said that it was "today's gift". That really resonated with me for some reason. What is your "today's gift"? Something that takes you away, even if for only a moment fromm the day-to-day struggle with D.
For me "today's gift" was the sound of the woodpecker in the woodlot next door tat-tat-tating away. He's returned for the summer as he does every year.

To those of you who have not watched the Susan Boyle video on YouiTube/Susan Boyle, please do. You'll be blown away by her fantastic voice. I still get shivers when I listen. Carol

I got up. My hubby and I took Casper to the park. It is a beautiful day here in Tennessee. 70 and sunny. The flowers were blooming, the sun felt great. I sat on a swing by a creek and watched the little fishes while hubby ran with the dog. That was such a great time and being able to still get out and around is my gift for the day.

My gift today was just seeing a beautiful sunny day !!!! After a long winter it felt so good to be able to open some windows let the sunshine in and hear the sounds of nature and to notice my tulips starting to come up already. To see my 2 dogs also enjoying the warm sun you could almost see them smile !!!!
Thanks dyanne

My gift today was not one that I received, but one that I was able to give. I live within a Native American community, a few times per month a truck delivers clothing, food, necessities, etc. that are to be handed out to anyone in the community, Native or not, that may need them or can use them. Last month the local person who receives the delivery was seen by several people living around her taking ALL of the food into her house box by box and NOT leaving it in the area for those in need. This month there was a delivery of clothing at the first part of the month, I saw the delivery truck there myself, and again I personally saw this woman loading up box after box and putting them inside her chain link fenced yard so that nobody could get to them without going onto her personal property. I had a real problem with this because there were probably between 50-75 boxes of clothing that she stacked against the side of her house, outside, in the weather, but where nobody could get to without trespassing basically. This past Sunday we had cleaned out one of the small sheds here and we headed to the local dump to get rid of some things, while we were there this person showed up in her van and proceeded to unload box after box, what ticked me off the most was that she didn't put them inside the dump area so that if someone wanted to look through the boxes they could, she literally threw them into a huge puddle of water that had accumulated due to snow melting off!!! OMG I was sooooo angry that she would do that, but, being fairly new to the area I hadn't a clue who to contact. This morning I stopped in at this little shop in the same village and was talking to the owner and I brought up what I had seen, well it seems this woman has done this for ages but people seem to be afraid to say anything to her or report her for what she has been doing, it was also stated by another Native that was there that he knew for a fact that she also sells some of the things that are delivered and pockets the money…OMG!!!
Well, after speaking with a few people I finally found out who to contact about this person's conduct, I made a phone call, told them what I had personally seen and what others had told me. They asked if I could prove any of this and I told them I could drive to the dump and take pictures of the mess she made with all those boxes of clothes, and pictures of the boxes still stacked outside her home, but inside her yard that were supposed to be for the community. I went, I took pictures, I emailed the pictures to the organization and then I received an email in response from them thanking me for taking the time to do all of this and that they would be in contact with me soon and asked if I would be interested in being the person who takes care of deliveries if they felt they needed to find someone who would take on the responsibility. I told them I would have to think about it, as I live 12 miles outside of this little village and it wouldn't be convenient to have it delivered way out to my house only to have to be taken back into the village. I spoke to the little shop owner about this and she told me they could find a place there in the village to have the deliveries made to.
It is so sad when someones tries to profit from something like this and denies those that need this help from receiving it for their own gain. I'm sure I've made an enemy by reporting this woman's conduct, but, many others will benefit from it and that is my "today's gift."

So far today my "gift" is waking up. Had a bad night with not getting comfortable because of pain. But seeing Casper and his "smiling face" and unconditional love is great. Today will be nice weather and may sit outside some. Have to go grocery shopping later.

Yeah, I must say that my gift is my fiance Ty and my kids of course. But I am not with my kids daily. Ty take care of me, I take care of him, WE work so good together…its complicated though, I got married 2007 to a jerk right? Well he left me after a month! I tried to work things out, did not work. Ty and I was friends, became more meanwhile so yeah I am married still and dunno how to get out of it. I don't have the money for a divorce AND now he don't even want one. He wants me back but of course I have moved on. A mess eh? lol *sigh* I just wanna marry Ty! Sheila

My today's gift is that my daughter still has her job after new owners took over the restaurant she works at, and told her today that she is one of the three employees they are keeping. After 3 years there, she is very happy since in the town we live in there are no jobs. But people have to eat.

Today's Gift for me was that after I woke up and checked on the 8 baby bunnies we've been bottle feeding I found them all still alive and that all of them have finally opened their eyes (they are 13 days old today and were supposed to open their eyes at 10 days). We were told by a professional breeder that they wouldn't live 24hrs unless we put them on another mother but not having one that could take on 8 babies I opted to try bottle feeding them, expecting to lose some of them because bottle feeding is nothing like having mamma do it, but, today they were all still alive and doing well, so that is my gift for today, that I seem to be a pretty good foster mamma for these 8 orphaned bunnies.

What a wonderful idea. We all should post what our "today's gift" is? It may give others inspiration or motivation. Just what we all might need to get us through the day. I am going to think about it on my walk with Casper today.

That is really amazing. We have black squirrels around here and are getting more all the time. I had never seen one before. They are a miracle. I once had a hummingbird land on my hand, now talk about a gift for the day. I will never forget it. It's nice to see everything as a gift. What it does to your attitude and makes you appreciate things so much more.

Thank you for this wonderful reminder. I will look for my gift today on my daily walk. I will take my camera out today also and look for something to photograph as well, something I can share with others. We all need to remember to look for a daily gift!!

This concept was in a book I read recently. A grandmother was teaching this to her teenage granddaughter who was going through some trying times. The concept that everyday gives us a gift of some sort and we need to be open and aware and look for our gifts. I try to do this on a daily basis but sometimes it's difficult to remember with the world we live in today. Simple things can be huge gifts today.

Thanks for bringing this up
