WHEN MY BS GETS LOW I START TO SHAKE IN THE HANDS AN I KEEP SOME SMALL CANDY BARS IN THE HOUSE AN OF COURSE MILK..MILK HAS AROUND 13MG OF SUGAR IN IT SO IF YOU ARE LOW DRINK SOME AN A SMALL CANDY BAR AN THAT WILL BRING YOUR BS BACK TO AROUND 100 AN YOU WILL FEEL BETTER..

I notice it was 1am there when you wrote that, I tend to get lower sugars if I am up late or get up early too…so maybe that played a part? Like they all said, their suggestion are GREAT to help. I also feel like crap when my sugar hits the 70's for some reason, I know it's good sugar but it effects me like it has you. Good luck. Sheila

Generally, you need to do just as you did. Drink or eat something with a lot of sugar. Juice is good, two tsp of sugar is good, hard candy is good, fruit is good. I would suggest that if after 15-30 minutes it doesn't come up and you still feel poorly, try some method of fast acting sugar again. Once you do feel better you do need to follow it up with a protein. Peanut butter is what I always recommend. Eat a sandwich or something, followed with a glass of milk as this protein will help to keep your sugar up for awhile. fast acting sugar will bring it up quickly, but it may drop just as quickly again.
Hope this helps

Before I go to school, which is an hour away, I usually have a bowl of cereal. The milk holds me until I get back home for lunch. Milk is a wonderful long acting carb!

Are you eating meals and snacks as you should be? Even if you don't feel like eating you have to at least eat a little something, I too use the milk method if I am home, anything more and I end up going high and then I have to work to get it down all over again, the milk works for me pretty well and fairly quickly too.

Robin, That was my problem before. I was still feeling shaky after I ate something so of course I was consuming more and Whoppee! back to a high blood sugar…Debe

msann, I run low a lot and orange juice or about 8 ounces of coke will pull mine up pretty fast. Like Debe said, 70 is not bad at all. I don't do this unless I'm in the 30 to 40 range. Hope you feel better! Angie

I personally think that 70 is normal at least to me. But I was taught recently to drink 1/2 glass of milk. I did not think it would work. But I have done this many times now when I have lows and it has really work…Debe

I drink a 1/2 C. of some kind of juice, preferably orange juice, then wait 15 min., and test again. If it's not coming back up, eat something like peanut butter, I usually grab Pop Tarts.
