Have you had Carpal Tunnel? Did it come back after first surgery?

Hey ya all. I had Carpal Tunnel surgery back in 96 on both hands, two different times thank goodness. Anyhow, I have had little signs of it here in there as time went on years down the road but now, about two weeks ago my left hand is BAD! I know it is the same thing, I am scheduled to see my surgeon from way back then, do you think surgery is where I am heading again? I mean, I know you don't know but if anyone has information on this problem, especially comming back I would appreciate a word or two. Thank you very much, just nervous..so many issues, just another one I guess *sigh* Sheila

I had carpal tunnel surgery on both hands back in 1984. I haven't had any issues since except one trigger finger release on my thumb a few years ago. The surgeon told me at the time of the trigger finger that people that have had carpal tunnel are more prone to trigger finger too. He let me watch him do the trigger finger release and it was awesome to watch.. LOL

I told them no when they wanted to do general anesthesia and the nurses were not happy. When the doctor came in he said that's fine she doesn't need to be out.. I then said will you let me watch? and he smiled and said certainly if you think you can take it… I just laughed. I watched, the nurses watched me because they thought I was a nutcase asking to watch… lol and all was well. best surgery I ever had, no anesthesia, no twilight drugs, just me and the doc having a few laughs while he did his 10 min thing… we were both more relaxed. :)

The first one I had was under local. I could feel pressure when he started to cut and told him. The other hand was under general. I liked the second one better.

I had both hands done and have had no problems since. The surgery was done 12yrs ago. I hope if you have the surgery done again, you will have no more problems.

Sheila, I've had both hands done too, the wide open method. I also have had trigger finger release surgery on both hands, the middle and ring fingers. I've talked to a few people who have had the carpal release, and they too, have trigger finger problems!

Every once in awhile I too, have twangs, as I call em, like when I crochete too long, or sew for a long time at one time. I do not want to go back for more surgery, but I have a new Ortho so it probably wouldn't be too bad.

Whats the trigger finger release? It's been so long I don't recall this. Sheila

Trigger finger is when your finger locks when you bend it, and it's painful to straighten it out.

Sheila, I have also had noth hands done. The only thing that bother me is: If I lift a heavy bowl of something or a heavy skillet SOMETIMES I have to grab it with my other hand and theres a sharp pain, But its gone an soon as i use my other hand for aid. Hope you don't have to go thru that again. Dosey

Thanks, though I am afraid I will. I am having a hell of a time using the left hand…ulgh And I love typing on here so soon gonna have to just use my right and peck at it, that'll suck. My fiance already knows he'll be having to do dishes and so on soon. I dunno I go the first week of April to that surgeon and see what he says. Thanks though. Sheila

It would probably be a good idea to get a snake for in front of you keyboard. I did and have not had a problem. It is a good preventative measure too.
