While researching information for another discussion posted here I ran across this PDF file through the SD Health Dept./Diabetes website. In 2007 they implemented this plan to run from 2007-2009 solely on the subject of Diabetes and what the state intends to do about it and a time line of when they expect to have these things in place. I didn't know there was such a thing and would like to know if your state has a similar plan, I am posting the link if you would like to read my state's plan to either compare to your state or maybe suggest to your state if you think it is a good idea…or, am I the only one that didn't know there were such things?

There is a CDC manadate (as of 2004) for all of the states on diabetes. I know both California (where I was born) and Missouri (where I currently live) have a diabetes program although California is far more extensivel, I guess because of the high hispanic population (like SD with it's native american population).

That was kind of why I was asking, because my first thought was the Native American population here being so high if it was just here because of the predisposition for diabetes is greater with Native Americans, or if all states have a plan. I found the plan for SD very interesting to read and what the goals are, however it doesn't say whether they achieved the goals as planned but I'll research a bit further and see what worked and what failed.

I glanced at it and no you are not alone. I dunno if this state has anything impletmented or not either. I will have to research that in a bit. I tried earlier to find something on this day as well and found that state was involved (did not realize how much) but I did not see a whole lot more…but I am moving slow so…thanks though! Sheila

If you do a search for your state health dept. webpage there should be something there about a state plan, that is how I found ours.
