What are some of the symptoms of kidney disease? I have had a heaviness and tightness in my flank area for over a year now, and off and on pain in the area. I had blood work done about a year ago which told me to be cautious about my kidneys but my endocrinologist never recommended a visit to a nephrologist.

I am so happy to see she is on the transplant list. I did dialysis for over 3 years and got my transplant in 2007. What a miracle to have a second chance to life…Debe

High blood sugar and high blood pressure an hurt your kidneys. You can avoid or delay kidney disease by: controlling your blood pressure-keeping your blood sugars at the level recommended by your MD -Using nonsteroidal antiinflamatory drugs(NSAIDS), such as ibuprofen, with caution. Ask yor MD if there are other medicines you should avoid as well. Get checked and treated for Urinary tract infections. The earliest signs of kidney failure is to much protein in your urine. Your MD can find it through a microalbumin test. You should get one each year. Check: National Kidney Foundation

I have no idea on this. I just wanted to wish you well and I just give you my best wishes that everything IS okay. I would call the doctor back and say something of the pressure…if its new, stronger that is…or just simply call and ask for a nurse to explain to you more. Good luck hun. Sheila
