I wondered if anyone else was taking this oral medication or not. I am taking it once daily in the afternoon. I have had some problems with low bs in the morning when I get up. I have been on a diet since the first of the year and have lost 28 lbs. thus far. I am trying to eat a max of 1800 cal a day. I ususally am doing ok, but I have had more low bs episodes. I am also taking 1000mg metformin twice daily. I will be seeing my doctor in a couple of weeks so he hopefully will decrease my meds. Just wondered if anyone was using this med and if there were any problems with bs dropping low using it.

I take this medication also but not quite that high but I have never had a issue with the medication like that. Now I have had days of sugar dropping but it not all that often. Congradulations on your weight loss also. Sheila

I take this medication and have been taking it for years. There have been no problems with low blood sugars due to this medication for me.

You might want to know that this drug does cause weight gain with some people, but it looks like that this is NOT the case for yourself.

Congrats on your weight loss! Keep up then good work. Just be sure to keep your doctor informed as to what and how you are following your weight loss diet. Sometimes how we choose to lose weight can cause those lows that you speak of.

I have no experience with the medication you ask about however I do have a question of my own for you, and I do realize there may be controversy over this, but here goes.
I notice you said you count calories, and I think it is great that you have lost weight thus far, but, have you ever counted carbs? I ask this because in our daughters case (1000mg of Metformin 2x/day) we have to count both, but actually learned if the carbs are right the calories are as well, but that it doesn't work in reverse so easily. We also found out that she was not getting enough protein with certain meals and that was causing her BGL to go low, I found this odd but it is what we were told by her Ped Endo, once we increased the protein she did not have any of those lows. I also realize what works for one doesn't always work for everyone, so please understand this is just an example of what we do for our daughter that seems to work.

I have not cut out carbs but do attempt to limit. Most days I stay below 300 and actually average between 200 and 250. I have tried low carb diets to only feel super tired all of the time. Although it did help me make myself aware of how big swings in carbs either way does play with the old bs. I do believe that my weight loss with also becoming a little more active around the house, farm, and at work may help me be able to back off on meds a little. Thanks for the concern and pointers and will keep them in mind from here on. God bless.
