I did the dumbest thing this morning!

I usually have really high blood sugar in the morning so I did not think about the fact I really need to eat this morning after my Glyburide. Well I took it and got really tired and fell asleep. Well a few hours went by and my older boy woke my up with blasting music, which annoyed me. So I said well I mind as well get up and when I did it hit me, I started feeling a little funny. I checked my sugar and it was 57. That was the first time I ever had a low and did not feel it. That was really weird. I don't like that at all. But of course I over compensated and made it go up to 287 then I had to treat that to get it normal again. Errr that was frustarating.

I mentioned on another discussion about how just today I was driving home with my wife from doing some work at church that I all of a sudden felt shaky, sweaty, and very weak. She happened to have a 3 muskateer bar with which I took a bite off of. Finally got home about 20 minutes later and took my bs. It was 76 at the time. I ate a little snack and felt a little better. What I hate about the lows is not only the shaky, sweaty, dizzy feeling but how I feel as if I have been awake for a long time and end up if possible taking a little nap. Is there any thing else that I can do to bring my bs up if there is no juice or glucose tablets available. I usually start feeling the effects when I get below 80 and really feel it when I get below 70.

Just remember that exercise, whether it's called exercise or work, if you move a lot, you will bring your BS down. If your BS is marginal to begin with, then the potential for lows is real. My solution would be to keep candies in your pockets, your car, or the tablets they sell for diabetic people. They do not require refrigeration and are small enough to put just about anywhere. Then you're never in trouble.

I had sugar lows often when I was working so I know how it feels and it's far from being fun. The first thing I would do was ask someone to get me a regular coke. That would sustain me for a little while and it enabled me to walk to the cafeteria for some protein, which would stay with me for a lot longer. The only thing is that when I had a low like that, it took me several hours afterwards to feel fine. I felt like my body had been hit by a mac truck and I stayed in a stupor mode for hours. I never tried to drive in that state and the boss usually sent me to the nurse's office to rest until it passed.

I am alone now in the house and one morning last week or the week before I got up with a BS of 52. I did not feel it come either, so I got myself in the kitchen and ate something right away.

Just remember when you have a bad low, the more exercise you do, the lower your BS gets and that includes walking anywhere. Having a protein bar in your purse, in your night stand, is a good idea. It's a quick fix and within immediate reach.

I usually treat my low bs's with a handful of M&Ms. I did not know that chocolate isn't good with low bs's. Thank u for sharing that info

I am low 99% of the time. It kept on happening in the hospital and the doctors gave me orange juice and apple juice to drink which pulled it back up, but not too high. I've been told a thousand times on DC not to do this, however, I still do. My reasoning being I know it works and I can't stand the hypo's. I'll keep on drinking juice when I go low. Good luck Catty! Yeah that is scarry. I have had that happen to me also and the results were not pretty. I woke up to the paramedics and the fire department starring at me. I was told that you should always check your sugar even if you know its high. take your meds and make sure you have some kind of starch handy if you feel real sleepy and tired. Dont eat Chocolate its not good for you in a low situation. Im am happy you are ok and safe.

I have had someone say chocolate is not a good way of raising sugar before. I did not know this. Because I have used chocolate before and had a time trying to get it raised up.

Wow, that had to be frightening. I have not ever had a low yet...when you guys share this stuff, I have to say that I am thankful for that. I am glad you are doing okay. Now you know why your mom always told you to eat your breakfast.

Don't beat yourself up over one it tho. It has happened to me too. I also have done crazy things that got me stuck like that. And yeah, inno how low blood sugar can be just hitting you like that. Just be careful next time. :) We all care about you and don't want anything bad to happen. Take care. Sheila
